I get a lock icon and a HDD icon asking for a password when t20 starts. But when I remove the HDD, the system does not ask for the password and gives me an error about missing hard disk, then to press some key to exit and then bios screen appears. I could see no passwords assigned for any option there. Further I could see that If i insert an XP installation CD, T20 starts installation. Could it be a HDD problem and replacing the HDD would solve it??

There is a company called pwcrack online that maybe able to help you out. If they can't help you would have to replace the motherboard which is not very econmical to do so.

You probably need to replace the BIOS battery. This battery is small and on the inside of the laptop connected to the motherboard. It stores the BIOS settings, date and time. If this battery becomes worn out then it will cause your issue.
First try and press F1. Navigate to the last tab and select to restore defaults, then save and exit. If the computer boots up fine but the next time you use it the same message appears then you need a new BIOS battery.
Alternatively your HDD may be damaged if it cannot find a boot device. Check your HDD is recognised on the boot menu by pressing F12, select it and press enter and your OS should boot.
Hope this helps,

the passoword bios for laptop is difference with pc, with pc u only remove battery cmos but with laptop when u create password it save to chipset so u much remove chipset in motherboard and get back new chip u much know electric and have chipset. i think u much take to center prepaid them have the machine to do that
How did you set the password?
Did you buy this laptop from someone?
If you did you need to get the password from that person.
There is no backdoor password available and removing the BIOS battery will not remove the passowrd because the password is stored on an EEPROM chip.
You need the password to boot up the laptop and then into the BIOS configuration to remove the power on password.
Hi there,
I found a page with a video, on how to open a padlock
- I hope this is what you need, it looks easy.
plz let me know how you go - maybe I know of a safe we colud open...
So, what is it you want to do?
The hard drive on a T20 is in a slot on the left side of the unit, and it's cover can be taken off by removing 1 screw on the bottom just under the sound ports.
Hope that helps.
