1999 fleetwood limited which is a deville stretched one foot by superior coach for cadillac. Car has 120000 miles mostly freeway. Transmission all of a sudden started whining a bit then started slipping in all gears. Only drove the car 3 miles and it barely made it into the driveway. Just replaced front axle brake pads and major tune up 10 miles ago. Does it need a new transmission or could it be something else on the transmission?

If you check, the replacement the dealer installed in your car was likely a "certa" unit which is another word for a factory rebuild. Therefore a rebuilt transmission will not be anything "new"
If you press the issue, you will likely get Jag to replace yours with another certa unit. You may need to make a bit more "noise" though.
In choosing a private shop to do this work, ask around and see who has a really good reputation."Branded" shops are franchises and as different as dogs and cats when it comes to quality. If you have friends with a similar car, see who they have used. If you use a private repair shop ask who they "job" their trans work out to.
It may take a bit of shopping but you likely will find someone who can do the right job for you!

I was told to change my Transmission Control Module,located on the transmission . You can get it new for under $200 but, I was advised to get it from a junk yard it's alot cheaper and its easier. I hope this helps

i was having the same problem took it to the dealer and they reset the fault. i have been riding good since. they initialy said it was the Torque Converter but turns out it rides fine, been driving that way for about 2 years.
