You should be able to hold the power button (as if you were turning it on) for 20-25 seconds, which will shut it off completely. It should work as if nothing happened when you turn it back on again. Hope this works for you!!

i have a decent amount of knowledge concerning the left picture. your problem is a little vague but i think it may be broken. let me start with the basics. the sansa fuze has a hard reset function that when you hold the slider to the right for a few seconds it turns off. when released it should slide back to the left. when you slide it again it turns it back on "boots". now you say it is a dark screen, but are the lights on the wheel on? when the ribbon cable to the wheel is loose or broken 1 or more of these lights usually go out. if you take a flashlight and shine it directly into the screen do you see any image. it is easier to see when moving through the menus.

Frozen

If the light around the spinning wheel is blue and the screen is black, then Hold the on/off button up for about 10-20 seconds and it should turn off. then you can just turn it on again. I fit doesn't work, then just wait for the battery to die and charge it back up.

Hello,

Sandisk gives next support link, how to recover the player:
http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4/kw/blue%20ring/r_id/101834

Solution 1: RESET THE DEVICE
Scroll to the Sansa Fuze on next site, how to perform a reset:
http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/188/kw/blue%20ring/r_id/101834

When solution 1 did not help.
Solution 2: RELOAD AND UPDATE THE LATEST FIRMWARE
All data on the player will be erased when updating firmware !
Go to next sites, seeing how to do a firmware update:
1. To perform a firmware update the player has to be in MSC mode.
How to put the player in MSC mode, see the information about the
Fuze player:
http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/61/kw/blue%20ring/r_id/101834
Putting Sansa Fuze in MSC mode:
1. Turn device OFF.
2. Slide the Hold switch down to Lock (orange color showing).
3. Press and hold the left button ( |<< ) while connecting the device to the PC.

2. Continuing with the firmware reinstallation you can choose either automatic or manual update, see:
http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/278/kw/blue%20ring/r_id/101834
Automatic update using the Sansa Updater.
or
Manual update going to Sansa Forums.

Screen went blank

Hi, I experienced the same problem this morning, my sansa player (e280, 8Gb) froze in the middle of a song, the screen went blank but the wheel still had its blue light on and i didn't know how to fix it bur then i figured how. If that's the case with your player too, then the solution will be to press and hold the power button till the blue light goes off (abt 8-10sec) and then just restart the player. It should work.

My sansa fuze screen goes black whenever i move the wheel or push a button. it comes back on in aprox 5 seconds but as soon as a buttons push of wheels turn it goes black.

I have the same problem.

Only work around I found was installing Rockbox, then in the settings turning off the wheel light.

Seemed guessing cable issue?? once wheel light when out, the screen would come back.
