I bought this 46' HD ready TV in 2001 which has worked great so far. Recently started having static in picture which got worse. Called a local tech who said the problem was in the digital video board with the chip - he tried to repair it and now there is no picture at all. As a result, the board needs to be replaced and he says total cost of part + labor will be $500+. Should I replace it since I don't stand to lose much more if it does not work or should I go out and buy a new TV? Will I get other problems soon like bulbs burning out etc? Also, if recommending a new TV, please suggest which ones.
Thanks!
Your tech didnt know what he was talking about because that model usually only has problems with bad compacitors which is usually a very inexspensive fix however if he replaced the chip he probably replaced the eprong and failed to reprogram I would recomend you getting a service manual for your tv with online free tech support that wll try to help you straighten out this problem because it would be much cheaper than replacing either the board or your tv you may be able to fix this yourself with the tech support or at worse case senerio the tech will be able to get you a new board for a lot less than 500.00
