Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I tried to download my norton antivirus program that I ordered on my computer last night. When it asked me if I wanted my personal information taken off I said yes. It then stated uninstalling the program. I didn't know what to do, so I did a stupid thing and tried to stop it. Now I can't get the program to install. How do I fix it? I feel really stupid.

I'd suggest that you call Norton help desk and ask for their advice.

I cannot update the antivirus? he need username and password.

The only person that will be able to tell you that is the person who registered the program your using. There is no back door. I know your not using Norton because Norton updates automatically without asking for that, last I checked so does McAfee and Thunderbyte (I know you don't have Thunderbyte) Are you using AVG? or trying to register your product for the first time? if you are using Norton or McAfee it is asking for this information because you have to create an account and register your product before you can get updates. But you only have to do this once, after that it is automatic.

I AM TRYING TO ACTIVATE MY NORTON UTILITIES PROGRAM THAT I DOWN LOADED LAST WEEK.IT IS ASKING ME FOR THE ACTIVATION KEY. I DON,T HAVE IT. WHERE DO I GET IT? IT SAYS I HAVE 22 DAYS LEFT TO ACTIVATE,

You should have received the activation code when you purchased the download....if you didn't purchase the download, then go online to www.symantec.com to purchase/activate your program. Print your receipt with the activation code on it...or you should have received an email from Norton (Symantec) with your activation code. If the program you downloaded was a trial version, then you will need to purchase it in order to get your activation code......

Norton trial version expired but not uninstalled

1. Yes, uninstall before installing any other antivirus program or security suite. Your computer (and you) will be happier.
2. Once you uninstall the trial version of Norton, go ahead and download One Care. I've heard some good things about it, but haven't used it personally or seen it installed on a client's computer.
3. Symantec/Norton has made improvements to their software uninstalls. If you have a newer version of Norton installed, it should cleanly uninstall from the Add/Remove programs area. If it's older, you may have issues getting it to uninstall - leaving remnants as you mentioned. Symantec has help removing their software completely on their support site if you need help.

Hope this helps! : )

Computer said norton virus had expired then computer went into hibernation and now will not restart

Try to restart the computer in safe mode or safe mode with networking. Go to control panel, add or remove programs (or programs and features if its vista), and try to remove norton antivirus completely. If that does not work, and you are in safe mode with networking, download the norton removal tool from the internet and run that to remove the norton antivirus completely. Your computer should be able to boot to the normal window, you can downlaod the norton antivirus latest version from the norton website or purchase the norton antivirus disc from any store. All the best.
