This soundsl ike the prob i just had, it is due to the last 2 updates causing laser to spin too fast, and burn out. only way to fix that i know, is by ringing sony, and they will happily send u out a replacement ps3 and a coupon via email for the post office to post ur console to them. they r still covering ps3s that have just ran out of warranty too. the service from sony was wonderful.

I don't know how far the PS3 Network is with resolving their current issue, but it's effecting pretty much every PS3 (except slim's) connected to the internet. Some players are losing trophies, some are losing in-game data, and some lose all functionality of their PS3's. Google PS3 Network Issue to read the most current updates. Please adhere to the warnings and limit PS3 usage until the problem is fully resolved. It has something to do with the clock functions.
there might be no space on the memory card, Take the game out and load up the playstation then if the page is full then you have no room left, it happend to me. After that all you have got to do is delete some stuff, if you dont want to then buy another memory card and put it in slot 2.
I had kinda the same problem, but my ps3 was able to get to the home screen. I never tried the problem out on a ps2 game, but when I put anything BlueRay into the system, I would also get that blank, blue AV screen. Because I was able to access my home screen, I looked around and found that I had corrupted data on my system. Now, I'm not sure how to get you back to your home screen, but if you're ever able to, the only solution that I found was to wipe the hard drive of the corrupted data, by going to the Game option on the home screen, then scrolling down to either Game Data Utility or Saved Data Utility. That's where you'll find it. Unfortunately, this will mean you'll have to wipe your entire hard drive of all your saved data.
I know it sucks, but I hope this helps...
otherwise have people look at it.
your hard drive is going to crash any day now. buy yourself a 320gig being all the ps3 will take is 300 gig. You have limited time before you loose all your data
maybe you didnt download the update data to the memory stick, maybe you downloaded it to your pc. Next time download the update data to the memory stick and not the pc.
