By describing the wires from your new thermostat and your old one, it sounds like your new thermostat is not compatible with your system. If you have seven wires now, then you more than likely have a heat pump system and you have to get a thermostat that is compatible with this type of system. Then you will have the connections you need.
Here is some basic info to help you. On the thermostat the letters mean... G is for your blower fan, and is usually green, Rc and Rh are power for the heating and cooling circuit (24v) and are usually red; Y (or in this case Y/O) is power to the cooling contactor (outside the house) and is usually yellow, and W (or in this case W/B) is the common wire, and is usually white. It kind of sounds like the people who installed the old thermostat followed these guidelines, so your best chance is to go to the heating unit and seeing where the wires connect to. Hope this helps
There is no real color code for wiring but the standard is red wire to r, yellow wire to y,white wire to w, green wire to g, blue wire to c. since there's no c on your t- stat its probably battery operated, but in your case im betting white wire to w, and blue wire to g.
Depending on where the wires were connected on the old thermostat, would be the best place to start, but if that is not an option you could try to trace the wires back to your furnace and see where they connect to. It appears you have either an oil fired furnace, or a single stage heat pump. If you need more assistance please just provide type of heat used. Hope this helps
The wire colours mean nothing. If your old one didn't have letters or you already disconnected it, you will have to go to the furnace. Under one of the panels there will be a control board to which the thermostat wires connect and this might have the letters printed on it. Trace them back and connect them appropriately.
If you have a furnace that is like mine (a single-stage natural gas one), chances are that R is +24V, C is common, W is heat call, and G is the blower. Y is generally cooling. The furnace could be turned on by connecting R, W, and G together, I suppose, if the above doesn't work... but it won't shut off automatically.
I had the same set and problem. I had a RC wire which is the power to the AC. But didn't have an RH wire which is the power for the heat. To fix this just use the jumper wire and insert it in with the RC wire and hook it up to the RH. Fixed my problem.
I have a manual thermostat with the following wire connections (Y, G, R, O, C, & E) with the respective wires attached (yellow, green, red, orange, blue, white). My 44260 has available G, Rc, Rh, Y/O, W/B, Y1. Which wires should I connect to which terminals on the 44160. Thanks.
