Try doing the following:

1. Uninstall Adobe Reader thru the Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs.
2. Delete the Adobe directory in the Program Files directory.
3. Restart your computer.
4. Download and reinstall Adobe Reader.

Please let me know if this doesn't work.

Thank you for using Fixya and Good Luck

    From another guy

Try holding down the left-shift key right after
launching Reader. This disables plugins. If the error goes away, figure
about which plugin is vexing you.

    The plug-ins folder is Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 8.0\Reader\Plug_ins

    In
my case after a clean install of Reader 8.1.0 a plugin called
AI2Z_PDFAHOI.api was being added by something. I could not find any
info on google. I found the plugin by looking at plugin creation dates
(not modification) and noticed it had been created after the time of
Reader installation. I removed it and made a folder with the same name
to prevent it from being put back; plugin folders already existed so I
figured another one won't hurt. That worked to quell the error.

What must I do if when I open adobe reader it say me: invalid plugin detected. Adobe reader will quit. ????

tried up-issues (Adobe Reader 8.1.2+) and got the same error "invalid plugin detected. Adobe Reader will quit".

I fixed this error by following laborious steps described in the Adobe Technical Support Home.
Not sure if this helps you guys; but worth a try. Developers should say if this the real cause.

You can find these in the "plug-ins" folder. [C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\plug_ins]

"HAEvents32.api" is the main culprit. Along that, I removed "Helmant32.api" and "Helmbkmk32.api".
Without deleting these two, an error or two might come but still PDF will work. I tried all these combinations.

Note: Delete these files if present anywhere else in the system else they recreate themselves.

Thanks every one.

When I open an attachment-pdf for instance. or any attachment for that matter. The windows media player opens, with an error message saying it cannot open this type file. is this an adobe reader problem

Sounds like your files are not assigned to the correct program.

Open Windows Explorer and find a pdf file.

Right click on it and choose Open With...

Select Adobe Reader and check the box at the bottom that says:

Always use the selected program to open this kind of file.

Click OK.

All pdf files should then open in Adobe.

You can do the same with any other type of file by choosing the program you want to open it with.

Thanks for using Fixya.
