Closed captioning I can't seem to remove the closed captioning from my screen. It says 'off' in the settings, and I even tried to reset to factory settings. When the set is turned off (or even in standby mode) then on, the closed captioning is set to 'auto'. It just won't go away! Can anyone help??

I called the cable company and they guided me through changing the menu on the cable box...seems that even if your tv is set up right, your cable box can change the settings automatically.

I experienced the same problem for about an hour before recognizing that the "continuous on" closed captioning had been activated on my cable box, not the TV. The signal feeds through despite the CC settings on the TV. If you haven't already, try checking the CC settings on whatever device is supplying your video.

How can I turn off CC on my SONY 52XBR. I used the Remote control settings and selected off on the cc display, but the cc never turns off. I also used the menu button on the side of the T.V to select

If Closed Captioning is being displayed even though the CC option in the TV menu is set to Off , then it is being produced by another device, such as a cable or satellite set-top box. To remove the Closed Captioning from the TV screen, it must be disabled on the device that is decoding the Closed Captioned signal.
NOTE: Some set-top boxes may automatically display Closed Captioning on the TV screen when the set-top box sound is muted. If this is the case, turn off the Mute function of the set-top box

LN52A650A closed caption will not turn off. Tried resetting to factory setting and that didn't work.

CLOSED CAPTION can come from two sources:

1.) in the set there are settings for it, make sure not on or set to CC1

2.) If you are using a box to provide signal to the set--all boxes have the same option--they have Closed caption and SAP---

Check the set menu first and then the box menu---one of them is engaged.

If this told you something you did not know, rate this solution as very helpful as I do this here for free.

Closed caption will not turn off in any menu options.

Leave it off unplugged from the mains overnight. This should reset the TV to factory settings removing the closed caption problem.

If this fails you should be able to find factory reset in the set up menu.

Good luck!

I have a black rectangle covering the center of the screen from top to bottom. How do I get rid of it? I tried the menu for Closed Captioning but it did not seem to work.

Try turning off the closed caption and text also check v chip, if you have a channel or channels blocked it could cause a black rectangle to pull up on the screen, if that doesn't work try resetting the unit to factory settings

Unable to remove the closed caption through the remote control (Haier) 42 inch flat screen tv. Went through the function and selected 'No' to Closed Caption, but it does not remove it. Thanks, Sandy

I dont know what model you have i see two on there website. i read manual for one of the 42 inch lcd tvs and i do see where you confirmed you said off to closed caption mode am i correct? Ok try this turn the closed caption on and exit menu. now shut off tv and turn it back on. now go into menu and turn closed caption mode to off now and exit menu and see if that helps. ok i hope this helps ....oh i forgot to mention make sure that you didnt enable the closed captioning on your cable box remote. Just might want to check with that. It might not be your tv at all it could be the cable boxes closed captioning service. I hope some of this helps if not see if there is a factory reset in the menu.

Viewsonic n3251w will no longer display Closed Captions

You can reset your viewsonic remote control by removing the batteries, and holding the power button down for 10 seconds. Just 10 minutes ago I repaired my remote, which was doing absolutely nothing, not even turning the set off and on, Called Viewsonic, they told me this, and it worked ! Yay !
