Hi,
There are two things involved in getting disconnected either your comp is getting disconnected or your router.
Instance 1
Computer getting disconnected connect your comp and router with ethernet cable if using wireless. Because at times it's not router but the wireless connectivity that gets loost.
Instance 2
Router getting disconnected...
Reset your router by holding the reset pin at the back of your router for 15 secs and lights will start flashing on router wait for 1 min you'll have router reset to default settings and now check that dsl or internet light on your router is flashing or static if flashing contact your isp issue with the line if static run the disc for router installation again and it'll remain connected after successful installation.

If you have an internet connection already, why do you need the netgear router?

Error 10091 is "Provider entry RSVP TCP service provider could not perform simple loopback communication".
It sounds as if you are setting up the router wrongly, consult your ISP.

try to reboot your netgear router. if the same issue persist, try deleting the wireless networks saved to your computer and try to reconnect.

Hope that works.

Netgear wpn824 v2 loses connection The internet light blinks amber every few minutes and I lose connection to the internet.

if you're online and loses connection every couple of minutes, that most likely be and issue with you ISP. it's intermittent connection issue with the server or might be the modem if it's more than a year.. better is to contact your ISP to check on their end, also to create a work order to investigate and monitor the issue.

Everytime I want to use the internet I have to plug in the ethernet cable from the router- WPN824- and go the the 192.168.1.1 address and setup the wireless setting. Then I can disconnect and use my laptop...

Netgear routers are notorious for this. The firmware on the unit just loses connection. In order to fix this, you have to make sure that you have the latest firmware.

There are several version of your unit. go to the following page and download the firmware and update it to the latest non-beta release.

Losing connection from router

Sheila,

And please call me John. I found this interesting article on Netgears' site which seems to match your symptoms and makes a lot of sense if you match the criteria. Is your Anti-Virus software up to date and have you applied (assuming MS-OS) all of the past and present Microsoft patches for you PCs ? Basically what the article is refering to is that your router could be becoming overwhelmed by spurious virus related traffic which is causing you to lose connectivty to your ISP. While this can be directly related to your local network it could also be that the ISP is allowing this kind of traffic on THEIR network (which I have seen many times in my line of work) therefore affecting your router....if that makes sense. Please consider this and read the article ot the link below. Let me know if this helps if not I'll try to figure something else out.

Good Luck.

John
