Express slot is bad

Hello,

My employer has just purchased an AT&T Laptop Connect card (Option GT MAX 3.6 Express) for my Dell inspiron E1705.
After they installed it, they advised that Express slot on the PC is shorting out.
I use this laptop daily.
Is it possible to get this fixed quickly?
Please advise.

Please note the card works fine on another computer.

I would be trying another card before checking the laptop.

If the port itself was shorting out then it would be shorting out with or without the card in place.

Yes, then there's that slight bit of missing information.

If the pcmcia slot is damaged then the laptop will need to have the slot replaced.

It's a plugin module on the motherboard. There is probably a bent pin on the connector side of the slot (the internal connector)

If you can get to it, then you would only need to straighten the pin out. When you push the card into place, then pin is being pushed onto other pins..hence shorting.

With Dells this is fairly straight forward, the palm rest/top cover needs to be removed.

    1. Remove Battery/Hard Drive/Memory/etc etc etc from under the laptop.

    2. Remove the plastic strip containing the power button etc.

    3. Remove the keyboard'

    4. Remove the metal plate

    5. Remove the LCD screen

    6. Turn over and remove all the screws underneath

    7. Carefully pop the top palm rest off.

    8. Remove the screws holding the pcmcia slot

    9. Fix the pins/replace the module

    10. Put it all back together.

In all, best to goto a laptop shop and get them to do it. These are fiddly if your not used to it, and there are alot of static sensitive components inside.

How do i get my dell inspiron E1705 to connect wirelessly?

Hello,

First of all make sure the Wifi is turned on your laptop.
You need to press Fn+F2 at the same time to turn the wireless on. Once its on you need to connect to the wifi network in range and you are good to go.

Thanks

256 MB Nvidia GeForce Go 7800 for Inspiron 9400/E1705 Card Failu

Both solutions are wrong. The Dell Inspiron 9400/1705 is a laptop. If you buy a Nvidia GeForce Go 7800 for this laptop, you need to buy a Dell Inspiron 9400/E1705 motherboard for a discrete video card. The integrated video is a Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950. The integrated video has the video chipset on the motherboard and the discrete video (GeForce Go 7800) has the video chipset on the video card.

Nvidia geo force failure

The best place to purchase the Nvidia GeForce Go 7800 for a Dell Inspiron 9400/E1705 laptop is eBay. If available on eBay, the price could range from $230-$300 and search for "Dell 9400 video" or the card name. Some eBay sellers will give you a $50 or so credit, if you purchase a card from them. The video card can be downgraded (ATI Mobility Radeon® X1400 HyperMemory)
or upgraded (NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GS or GTX). Also, you can try parts-people.com, but they're typically more expensive and reliable.

Yes, the video card can be repaired in most cases. Search eBay for Nvidia GeForce Go 7800 repairs.

Can an internal wireless card be installed in a Dell Inspiron 1000? If yes, how?

Yes, most wireless cards will slide into an available slot on the side of the laptop. This slot is a feature that is an option on most dell laptops. if you purchased a fully loaded laptop form dell, you should have this wireless internet slot located on one of the sides of this laptop.

I want to view pictures on my Dell E1705

there should be a flash card slot on your dell but if you see it's to big you need an adapter. But you can connect it with a USB cable to your camera. Then you should be able to view your pictures. : )
