Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G Router

1 Answer

WRT54G Config I was given one from my company that no one could use due to the fact that the tech that had configured it is no longer with us. Just need to find out how to get into it and wipe out the current configuration and just let it be wide open. I have tried the trick to hold reset then plug in power to reset defaults but this did not work for me.

To reset your router, use the following steps:

  1. Press the reset button for 10 seconds. You can use a small object, such as a paper clip to hold down the button.
  2. Do not power off the unit while the router is being reset.
The unit should now reboot, and once the WLAN light stops blinking the router should be reset.
  3. Open up your Web browser and enter 192.168.0.1 in the address bar.
  4. For the login, enter admin as the ID and leave the password blank.
The router has now been reset.

Can I load a backup config from my Linksys WRT54G to my new Linksys E1500

Have you tried doing so? Most likely presets from one device will not work on another. You can try though, it should not cause any problems. Worst case you just perform a factory reset on your router if the configuration gets messed up by trying to load the preset from your WRT54G.

I no longer can access the internet with my hard-wired computer WHEN my router is attached. If I remove the router and reboot, I can get the internet with my hard-wired computer.

You still need to bridge your moded to the router. Then configure your router for the PPPoE using the account information given to you by your ISP. Your username and password.

Cant setup or connect to internet through router

Different ISPs require different configurations. If you have a Linksys router, such as the WRT54G, there are 2 ways on how you can configure it, either by running the Setup CD or by doing manual configuration. This particular router has its own web utility and you can access it by typing its IP addres on your web browser, ex. http://192.168.1.1. By default, it doesn’t have any username and its password is admin.

Once you’re inside the setup page, you can configure now the router for DHCP, PPPoE or STATIC IP settings. For DSL customers using a PPPoE account, some modem needs to be configured into BRIDGE MODE first and then the router will be set to PPPoE with the correct username and password (given by ISP). If your a DHCP account, modem doesn’t require any configuration. It will work with its default setting and the router would be set to DHCP. Once done, powercycle your devices to establish internet connection.
