Make sure that you correctly connect the power card & the ribbion from the motherborad on the drive. The motherboard should see the drive automatically from in the BIOS(thats the black screen w/ writings). If not then the cards at the back isn't plugged in correctly.

Dell gx 260 there is no disc in the drive.

OK, first of all you said you put a blank DvD in the drive. Make sure your dell has a DvD writer. Look on the drawer of the drive and see does it say DvDrw or DvDROM. It has to say Rw for rewritable and not ROM for Read Only Media. Maybe you have a Combo Drive that is DvDrom and CDrw which means it will read both DvD's and Cd's but in can only Write CD's.

If in fact you do have a DvD writer make sure you're not trying to put a Blue Ray disc in the drive.

Lastly, remove the DvD from the drive. Click Start/My Computer. Notice what it brings up as to your DvD Drive. Does it Say DvDrw or just plain ole DvD. DvD means it will only read a DvD.

I HAVE A DELL OPTIPLEX GX620 AND WISH TO KNOW HOW TO INSTALL A DVD REWRITER INTO MACHINE DO I JUST TAKE OUT THE DVD ROM AND INSTALL IN SAME PLACE

You can simply replace the old drive with new one. Make sure you have the jumpers on the same place as the previous one...

I have a dell optiplex 270 and my computer does

If the drive is seen in BIOS but not in Windows, then this should resolve:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060

If the drive is not seen in BIOS, Reseat the power and data cables, and reboot and see if the drive is seen. If not, then boot to BIOS, turn on Caps Lock, Scroll Lock, and NUMLOCK, then press ALT+E (system should Beep once), Then Alt+F (Beep) then ALT+B to reboot Then gp back to BIOS and see if the drive is seen.

If drive still not detected, replace the drive

CD/DVD problem

It might be that the DVD's you are using are damaged / scratched or of the wrong format. Some DVD- burners won't take DVD+ dvd's for example.

Cannot burn cd from Musicmatch from Dell Optiplex GX260. Error.

Hello,

My name is ArmyMason, I am here to help you. So you have an issue burning music to CD's. What is the format of the music? MP3, WMA, or WAV? Is the music protected by copyright in which doesn't allow you to burn it to CD? Right click on the song and click properties you will be able to see if its copyright protected there. Also some burning software only works with newer CD drives. I had an issue once burning a DVD with this software I bought because the DVD player wasnt supported. Once I upgraded the DVD Burner I was able to burn DVD's. Those are the only things that could be stopping you from burning music.

Hope that helps,
ArmyMason

My pc won't give signal

The first thing that I would check is that the cable to the power switch is plugged into the mother board correctly. It almost sounds like the plug is backwards or offby 1 pin.

Not sure how to use the cd burner?

Hi Kylie1, If I understand you correctly you can read from your CD drive but you can?t write (burn) to it. Just to make sure you should check the face of your CD drive and look for the letters *RW* or *Rewritable*. If you don?t see them then there is a good chance your drive is just a read-only drive. When Dell sells a PC with a CD write capable drive they usually installed a program that actually does the writing. With the OptiPlex260s it was typically a program named Roxio Easy CD. If this is the original software install it should still be there, if not then you will have to purchase or download and install one of the many freeware programs.
