Won't feed paper while printing

My Lexmark X83 will feed the paper through, print everything on one line without advancing, and then feed the rest of the unused paper through. It absolutely will not advance the paper while printing. I have tried this with copying also so I know it is an isolated issue with the printer and it is not my computer. Any suggestions for fixing this? THANK YOU!

I am having exactly the same problem. The paper starts to print and then will only advance enough to print an image that is copied over the lines of type. Tried changing paper type and tried forcing the paper into the printer but still doing this. We have had the printer for 4 years and it was working fine until about a month ago.

I have the same problem. The printer will feed the paper until it gets to the 4 large grey rollers. Then it prints the whole job in one spot. Once the job is done the printer will try and feed the paper out, this will move the paper past the 4 large grey rollers but only about 1 inch. Then I have to power the printer off then back on and the paper will start to feed out again however only about 1 inch. I can keep this process up until the paper feeds all the way out or I can just pull it out gently. I cannot see anything in the path of the paper and I have no Idea why it will not feed correctly. Please let me if you have any ideas.

I just obtained a printer with the same problem. When I opened it up I discovered a plastic gear that had cracked and was not turning the main paper roller as it was slipping. It looks like the solution is to replace the roller if you can find one or to repair the gear and epoxy back onto the roller. I am trying the later.

I have the same problem as of yesterday. It printed copies fine in the morning and in the afternoon it would feed the paper, print all in one spot of not on th paper at all, then feed the paper through with a printed mess or blank sheet.

If the paper is lodged too far into the printer and can't be removed:
Press the power button to turn the printer off.
Pull firmly on the paper to remove it. If you can't reach the paper because it is too far in, raise the front cover and remove the paper from the front of the printer.
Close the front cover.
Press the power button to turn the printer back on.
Resend your document to print.

Ensure that:
The paper is a recommended paper for inkjet printers.
You do not force the paper down into the printer when you load it. For example, if you are loading letter or A4 size paper, the top edge of the paper should extend above the top of the sheet feeder.
The printer is on a flat, level surface.
The left paper guide is against the side of the paper.
You do not load too much paper in the sheet feeder. Depending on the thickness of your paper, the sheet feeder can hold up to 100 sheets of paper.
The left paper guide does not cause the paper to bend in the sheet feeder.
Your printer feeds regular paper as expected. If regular paper feeds without causing problems, load the envelopes vertically against the right side of the sheet feeder. Make sure the paper guide is against the side of the envelopes.
Envelopes or the appropriate specialty papers are selected in the printer driver.
You are using a paper or envelope size supported by your printer.

If I schedule a print for my Lexmark X83 it feeds one sheet of paper straight through to the tray but does not print anything. No alarms anywhere on system. Same thing occurs if I ask for test print or...

Sounds like a clogged print head. In the lexmark printer software there should be a maintenance tool where you can try and clean the print heads.
By the same token the X83 is about 10 years old and well past the life cycle of most ink jet printers so if the troubleshooting tools don't get it back in order, it will be cheaper to replace than to repair.

Lexmark x83 does not pull paper through; what do I do?

One common cause of paper feed issues is a build up of dust on the printer's rear paper feed roller. This roller consists of a plastic axle with one rubber roller on each side. This is located in the automatic sheet feeder and is referred to as the "Pick Roller." As dust builds up on the rubber rollers, they become less tacky and therefore unable to grab a single sheet of paper.

To prevent and/or cure this type of paper feed problem, these rubber rollers should be cleaned.

Unplug the printer's power cord and remove the paper from the automatic sheet feeder. Locate the pick roller and clean the rubber wheels on the left and right with a cloth dampened with warm water (be sure there is no excess water on the cloth as it may drip into the machine). After these are free of any dust or ink build up, reload the paper and plug the power cord back in. The paper should then feed normally.

Next, follow the steps given below to perform the self-test:

1. Press the "Menu" button 10 times. It should then read "Maintenance" on the printer's display screen.
2. Press the "Select" button once. You should then see "Cartridges" displayed on the printer screen.
3. Press the "Right Arrow" button 3 times, which then brings you to the "Self-Test" option.
4. Press the "Select" button once. It should print out a sheet of paper with horizontal color and black lines and smaller vertical lines.

The self-test should at least print out a set of either black or color bars, if not both (if you have a printer with both color and black installed simultaneously). Should this test fail, try it again without cartridges installed. If the self-test still fails to take paper in and make sounds like the carrier is moving across the paper, this is a hardware issue, and the printer will require service. If the self-test completes without any cartridges installed, run the self-test again with the color cartridge installed. (If you have both black and color cartridges, after this test, run the test again with just the black cartridge installed.) If you find that either cartridge causes the self-test to fail, please let us know.

If the self-test prints, but has lines or smudges or other print quality issues, please let us know. This includes any print quality issues and we need to know if the problems you have with your black or color are based in the printer, or communications with your computer, or the computer's software.
If the self-test prints your test bar(s) clearly, the printer hardware is not at fault.

Lexmark z2300 printer won't pull in paper

1. Turn the printer off and open the access cover.
2. Look for any obstructions in the paper path and remove them if necessary. (It is possible to move the carrier assembly with the power off.)
3. Turn the printer on, load some paper, and press the Form Feed button. (On the X83, press the Select button.)
4. Watch the paper as it feeds through and try to determine where the jam is occurring.
5. Check to see if all the rollers are turning.

If all the rollers are turning, there may be something in the feed path that you can't see. Go to step 6.
If not, there is probably a feed motor or a gear problem and the printer may require service.
6. If the paper is jamming under the carrier assembly, you may be able to fix it using the manual feed slot.
7. Turn the printer off.
8. Take a #10 envelope and feed it through the left side of the manual feed slot until it comes right through the printer to the back of the exit rollers.
9. Move it up and down first, and then slowly move it over to the right side. If something is stuck under the black guide plate, this may work it loose.

X83 lexmark A06 error (paper jam)

Normal 0 I suggest you get a sheet of Card Stock (Heavy paper) and place it in the feed way. Then press the print button applying a slight amount of pressure on the Card Stock so it will feed through the printer. The reason for this is in some cases I have been able to clear the paper track of debris that was deposited there over time.
Worth a try, as I have fixed a number of printers this way, saving costly repairs.
Hope this helps. Bud

Lexmark X83 prints streakily or not at all

Have you used a new cartridge.

Do the test for running and cleaning new cartridge heads and the alignment procedure..

(Go to Start, settings, printers, right click on printer then click properties, cartridge maintenance.)

Other thing that might cause problem is build up of ink in right side of machine below printer cartridges.

You will have to strip down machine to get at this area.
Make a note of exactly what action you take when doing this so that you can bits back together.

I use cotton buds to get at the build up of ink or tissue wound round end of pointed object.
Go gently. When you have cleared what you can care reassemble bits and go through above procedure again. Check for any unusual noises that may denote part of mechanism has worn.

Paper feed and printing problem

Don't know if it's the same problem i had but its maybe worth a try. My paper went in a little, the wheels were turning but it didn't take the rest of the paper or print.
Someone replied to my problem, i tried it and it fixed 1st time. Also seems to of worked for others, it seems to reset the sensors or something.
Solution:- Use a piece of thin card, a magazine cover is what i used, make sure its A4 size then try to print something, as the paper starts moving push it through!! and hey presto it worked for me, everything printing fine now.
hope it works, let me know, Garty
