Sound problem with Dell lattitude c640 laptop

Hi i have been experiencing sound problems on my dell lattitude c640 laptop, and it is very frustrating for me.The problem that i am experiencing is upon loading windows my laptop will log on with a sound then about 15mins into the programs the sound will shut off with a click, and will not return unless the laptop goes on standby mode in which case the sound will return for approx.another 5 mins then shut off again, i have been recently noticing that once i pull up Mozilla Firefox the sound will go automatically, i am wondering if there's any way that that site can somehow contribute to my sound troubles, i have tried everything, troubleshooting, uninstalling drivers to reinstalling new and updated ones but still no luck on the sound,i d not have a Dell Resource Cd so i am unable to get the driver that was manufactured for this comp.I am frustrated by this and was wondering if anyone can help with my problem, pls, anyone, thanks.

What audio device do you have? If Vista, go to control panel, Hardware and sound, then click on audio device.

This sounds like a sound driver corruption possibly caused by a bug. try restoring your system to earlier date (if you remember when you started having this problem and restore option is available) using windows restore feature. If that works then make sure you create a good restore point right after that so you can use if this happens again. you can try updating/reinstalling sound driver. if you are reinstalling the driver make sure you remove the old drivers before installing new driver. drivers are available here:

Sound/video problems wih Dell Lattitude c640 notebook.

What I would do is buy a Soundblaster 24 Pc card,( like $20.00 off e-bay) Put it in with the creative drivers and it should override all other drivers. If not go into Device manager and disable origiginal onboard sound. Worth a shot. mark007

Sound problems

defrag the hard drive, clean out the temp files, see what your cpu usage is in task manager- and see how much stuff is running in there also. See if you have enough ram, and uninstall and re-install the sound drivers.
