Question about LG 42PX5D 42 in. Plasma HDTV

Red screens cause flickering

When using virgin cable box, red colours (eg BBC background) seem to be too bright and cause the picture to flicker. All other colour screens are fine. Normal tv is fine. Could it be the virgin box signal or is it the TV?

Thanks for that. I am using scart cables at present (good quality ones), as this is all the box has (it is a samsung virgin v box and has no composite/hdmi sockets). Also, what do you mean by cable ch 3 please. I have scart to composite, would this be better?

If normal tv is fine then ,likely the signal from the box is too hot.
if using composite switch to cable ch 3 or vice versa,
or use hdmi cable or change the box .

some boxes output to channel 3/4 on the rf .
from the looks of the scart connector there are several versions of standards within it,
there is not much you can do unless your an engineer and willing to modify the cable to drop the signal.
that leaves you with using composite signal or switching out the box though it might be the tv at fault in dealing with the signal through that connector.

Rca 42in full hd lcd picture flickers

If the picture on your TV flickers, there may be a simple fix. Here are some possible answers and suggested solutions:

1. Your set-top box may need a simple reboot. Unplug the power connection to the set-top box for about 30 seconds. Reconnect the power and turn the set-top box back on.

2. Check all of your cables for a loose connection by tightening each one with your fingers.Flickers can sometimes be caused by bends in rigid cables, too.

3. If your picture flickers to a black or blue screen, you could have a bad set-top box. Contact your cable or satellite service provider about installing a new one.

4. If you still have audio, the flickering could also mean that you have a failing backlight.

For additional troubleshooting information, check out the chart at TV flickering for more solutions. I hope this helps!

The screen is flickering

Call Samsung as on some of their models it is a known issue= on those a jumper needs to be removed from the power supply board, seems the wrong board was installed and is causing flashing on scene changes where brightness goes up and down.

Can see image but the screen is all red

Generally Tv screens use three different colours to make the picture, and if one or two of these colours don't show you will see the picture but in specially one colour (like looking through a red filter in your case).
If you are using an input into the TV (DVR or Games console etc) then I would firstly move the cable around in the back of the TV and the console to see if anything changes or flickers in and out of being correct. If this does happen I would recommend buying a new cable to fulfil the purpose.
If this does not happen and you are still seeing red then there may be an issue with the connection inside the back of your TV, this shouldn't be a very expensive issue to fix as you are still getting a picture but I would recommend getting a specialist to check it out if you are not confident in fixing this manually.
Thirdly and most unlikely is the settings inside the TV have changed, some TV's like yours will allow you to change colour settings on the screen. I would go into the menu and find the section that allows you to change the colours and have a check to see if any of the settings seem off.

Tv connected via scart cables through dvd and virgin media box. Picture sometimes goes yellow the flickers then back to clear.Other times it can go red. Plays dvd's okay though. Is this a connection...

Hi there,
This will be a problem with either the Scart leads (9 times out of 10) or the virgin media box. Not a problem with the signal coming from Virgin Media. Try checking the scart leads are not loose, or looped through the wrong way.
Hope this helps

Sony KP75HW40 unstable red. (not the usual problem)

I would suggest either the Focus block or the RED CRT drive board either one of those items could cause the symptom. A defective CRT could also, but a shorted CRT doesnt usually go back to being normal

Rca 62" PROJECTION FLATSCREEN - COLOR PROBLEM/FLICKERING SCREEN

Sounds like the red picture tube could be shorting internally which would cause the "all red" condition. In which case you'd have to replace the red tube. Are there horizontal (slightly slanted) lines through the picture as well when this is happening and a very very bright screen? If so it's most likely the tube.

Picture Brightness Flickers

could be one or more of three things.
1.could be the crt itself.(sony had a bad bunch of crts for this model)
2.could be the vertical ic on crt board.
3.could be the focus block
in my experience solutions 2 and 3 are more common....

Picture Would Come In and Out, Now Not at All

It seems as though from your description it is just the brightness changing. The Cathode Ray Tube has three electron guns at the back end. These are for green, blue, and red. Each gun has a cathode and a grid. Nearly all control the brightness by having the grids tied to a variable voltage. And nearly all control the colour and luminance by an amplifier connected to each cathode. As you do not say the colours change the the amlifiers are OK. I would suggest the voltage to the grids ( or cathodes in some), is unstable due to a bad connection or a dry joint, or a faulty resistor in that part of the circuit. Very old sets without remote control used a potentiometer to vary the brightness. A voltmeter is all that is needed. When the picture goes off try holding the increase brightness for some time, to see if it reappears.
