My ''older'' Toshiba laptop has suddenly gotten slower and more than one screen opens over another. Got any advice?
Yes., stop using it and have to backed up to a new drive as quickly as possible. This is what Toshiba drives do right before they die.
Testimonial: "Very prompt in the answer if this is the problem. I had the drive replaced last year, seems odd it would go bad that fast."
It is quite possible the controller is bad too (the piece on the motherboard that controlls the drive.) I would be sure to then download something such as "hd tune" and check the "s.m.a.r.t" look for reallocated or pending reallocated sectors; this will demonstrate the defective.
Based upon the way drives are manufactured, let nothing supprise you. I pull new drives off the shelf and they can be bad.
