Base from the description of your problem , this can be a connection problem between your tv and the laptop or a video card problem on your laptop. Since its not even detected that something is connected to it this can be a problem with the cable that you're using so if you can try a different cable that will be good.
Then for the video card on your laptop better uninstall and reinstall it from your device manager, because sometimes this is also a driver problem.

Thank you for the update, base from your description this is already a hardware problem on your video card , that it wont detect external monitor that is connected to it since you all necessary software and settings configuration are already been done. Better have the video card check.

  • rekha_candap Jul 23, 2010

How do i go about doing that?

If you have experience taking apart a laptop you can dismantle it and check the video card on the motherboard, but if you don't have any experience with that better if you take it to a computer repair and have it check there.

Thank you I will try that. Where do I get a new v card? if this one is stuffed up.... I have only had this computer for one year and already causing problems.. Gee that doesn't say much for HP? I thought this would be reliable. Have a good rest of the day. And thanks again

For example, if you have your notebook computer connected to an LCD TV and/or surround sound speakers with a high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) cable as part of a home theater system, you may encounter some common HDMI display and/or sound issues such as the following: If you are experiencing one of the following issues, click the link to go directly to a section of this document for a resolution. No display and always blinking power light

The issue might be due to the corrupted display driver. I recommend you to check the issue by connecting to external monitor, then reinstall the display drivers. If there is no display even on the external monitor, then the issue might be with the graphic adapter.

Monitor going berserk

This could be due to corrupt display drivers on the notebook or the video card is going to die. Try updating the graphics drivers on the notebook and check for the issue.

If the issue still persists, then to isolate the exact cause of the issue, I recommend you to connect an external monitor to the notebook and check for the issue on it. If external monitor works fine, then the issue with LCD display screen of the notebook. In case, if the issue persists on external monitor then it states that the video card of the notebook is going to die.

To connect an external monitor to the PC, follow the steps listed below:

1. Turn off the notebook.
2. Connect the monitor cable from the external monitor to the monitor port on the rear/side of the computer.
3. Connect the monitor to a power source and turn it on.
4. Press the Power button to turn on the computer.

At this time, please follow the instructions mentioned below for switching the display to the external monitor:

The notebook's video card supports three modes. Built-in screen only; external video only; and both on simultaneously (mirrored). If you're not seeing the image on the desired device(s), the notebook's video card is probably in another mode. Press FN + F4 to cycle through the display options: Notebook display, External monitor, both.

If you press FN + F4 once, the external monitor will display & there will be no Notebook LCD display.
If you press FN + F4 twice, the external monitor will display & there will be some shading on the Notebook LCD.
If you press FN + F4 thrice, both Notebook LCD & external monitor will display.

If the issue persists on the external monitor, then this could be due to defective video card on the notebook. However, if the display on the external monitor is fine, then the issue is with the LCD display panel of the notebook. In either cases, the notebook requires a detailed onsite diagnosis by a service technician.

Resolution problems with acer mini notebook NEED HELP

First thing I would suggest is going to Windows Update ( Using Internet Explorer ) and downloading the updates. Second thing would be to check and see if your screen is capable of the 1024x768 settings. The manual should tell you. After that let me know what you come up with.

Not booting up and no bios display when turned on

This can be a number of parts in your computer. First, it could be the laptop monitor. Ty connecting it to another one, see if that helps. Secindly, it could be either the graphics card or the motherboard. If you don't know anyone who knows how to switch those arund and has spare parts, or you can yourself, take it to a computer store and ask them to test some parts. One of these should solve the problem, and then you will know which part is broken and needs to be replaced. If you need anymore help just post here, Yannick.
