Question about Canon FAXPHONE L80 Laser

1 Answer

My Canon L80 Faxphone works as standalone but not as a printer for my Dell desktop. The PC says it is off line and apparently the USB interface on either the PC or the L80 is fried. I have swapped ports on the PC and placed a new USB cable between the L80 and the PC to no avail. We had a storm here yesterday that took out the router to our DSL connection. The PC was disconnected from the power at that time but not the L80. (I have had for years a whole-house surge suppressor in place). Is there any hope to repair this interface with a card from Canon? I am an electrical engineer and have dug into PCs, etc before but have never had any problems with the L80.

Hi there is no USB card for L80 but here is some options to try: try a different cable, if you still have the problem you can download the drivers for the L80.

Cannot receive faxes

Make sure that the telephone line from the wall is plugged into "LINE" and not "PHONE" on the fax machine. You might also call the fax number from a different phone to see if you can hear the fax tones.

Canon faxphone L80 parts available? paper feed shaft broke in half

The L80 printer guts are very similar to the HP 5L and HP 6L printer (Not well known, but the printing engines on many HP printers are made by Canon). In fact it is almost possible to use a 5L/6L toner cartridge in the L80, but as I recall there was a plastic nub that prevented it from fitting properly. This is probably meant to force the user to buy more expensive Canon toner carts instead of using cheaper generics for the 5L/6L. Try HP PartSurfer and you may be able to locate the part that you need.

I have a Canon faxphone L80 that I am trying to connect to my computer that has windows vista. can you help?

Click here then select windows Vista under the "select OS" dropdown. Download the file in a known location (like the desktop) with a meaningful name (like canon L80 driver). You may have to unzip the files. Then add the printer through the add printer wizard. When prompted, select the "have disk" button and browse to the file that you downloaded. Once you do that, just continue on with the rest of the add printer wizard and should be set up.

Hope this helps.
