Look for an internal fuse. I have one that's about 40 years old and it doesn't have a fuse. You could have a bad wire in the amp clamp or a corroded contact inside.

When the voltage measuring is OK, are you sure you are on the correct position for Clamp AC current measuring.
If you have some positions for DC current they may be through probes, but can not be by clamp for such an old amprobe.

If every thing other is OK, but you can not use Clamp for AC current, you may have problem in the current transformer in the clamp.

I hope that this will be helpful, because I don't know exactly how your device looks like, but some people rank such an answer with 2 thumbs, which means useless.

Testimonial: "Yes the only thing that works is volts using the probes.Amps and resistance will not work so probably in the unit.Wonder if I can send off for repair."

    Thank you for the rating.
For resistence measuring you need a battery. Is it OK.

Some instruments use battery for other measurements too.

Try to replace it. You may have success.

A wizzard can help in every situation. He will find a fuse in a clamp meter or ohmmeter  for you. When he becomes a "Guru" he may find even a gun diode in it, in order to measure microwaves!

You can rely on his proposal for bad contact. Your clamp transformer should be shortened when not in use.

I think you dont need help, you need a technitian or a new clamp meter.

To do this safely, you'll need a "clamp-on type ammeter" or "amprobe" . They look like this:
The nice thing about "clamp on type ammeters" is that they do not require physical connection to or disconnecting of any wire(s). Instead, simply set the scale for the most current you expect to see, clamp around ONE wire and adjust the scale as needed & read the meter for the most accurate reading.

There are available in various sizes and by other manufacturers - that offer a wide range of prices. Amprobe is the name of a particular company that invented this years ago - and makes this one - and other electrical test equipment. A search for images of "Amprobe" returns these.

How do you operate the mt10 moisture meter?

Turn on the meter by pressing the large button below the LCD screen; this is the single button below the 3 buttons. To change modes, press and hold this button for 3 seconds or more. The Setting mode symbol will begin to flicker. Press the power button again to toggle through the available modes. When you have the mode set, wait until the symbol stops flickering to take a measurement.

In the wood mode, just press the probes into the wood to get the moisture reading. The unit will turn off after 1 minute. If you want a deep moisture measurement, put a pair of screws (shorter than the width of the board) into the wood at the same distance apart as the probes. Then press the probes to the screw heads.

The manual for the MT-10 is available from the manufacturer: .

I hope this helps.

How do i measure capacitance with my amprobe 100 test meters

You can obtain the manual here:

If you are using the AM-100, the instructions are here on page 6:

Post back to this thread if you have any questions after reading the manual. Please include the complete model #.

You should _always_ discharge a capacitor before testing it! You may damage the instrument if not.

One must treat capacitors with a LOT of respect. Especially DC caps. They have been known to kill people or at least deliver a shock that you will not soon forget. Discharging the higher volt DC caps sounds like someone fired a powerful gun. Don't use a screwdriver to discharge those caps, that's why they tell you to use a 100k Ohm resistor. Grounding probes work well for discharging caps too. BE SAFE, if you don't fully understand what you are doing, don't do it.

Whats the starting current of a WCM 1500WC CHEST FREEZER

Because there are many factors that can cause current to fluctuate, you will have to determine that with an ammeter or an "amprobe". Clamp the amprobe on one of the compressor line wires and turn it on while looking at the ammeter. You should see an ampere reading.
P.S. Current is read in Ampere.

Megger testing of wire insulation. what represents a good reading and what is a bad reading. Using a AMB45 (Amprobe) Is an "OL" good or bad?

OL is a good reading, it represents a reading of greater than 400Mohm, with any insulation testing the greater the value the better.
