Question about Philips 60PP9202 60" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

Need help with projection tv

Had convergence problem (red wavy stuff). Replaced both stk's and the 12 6.8 ohm 1W resistors. It fixed the convergence but now the highlighted areas on objects have a single color bleed to the right. It is green, but I can change the crt drive plugs and the color bleed changes to red or blue depending on plug. This tells me that the crt boards are good, right? Also, I read somewhere that color bleed in highlighted areas to the right indicate low crt deflection yoke voltage. I'm measuring 130V and the schematic says 148V is supposed to be there. The problem is I dont know how to component diagnose the transformer in the circuit or the capacitors......Any advice and/or help would be greatly appreciated.

I appreciate your rapid response. Do you think you would be able to look at my schematic and help me to diagnose the capacitor to replace? I could email the page on pdf. Thanks.

Continued to troubleshoot, the same 2 convergence resistors fried again, but now the screen is pure white with sound still. Any guidance will help! Thanks.

On the drawings i have, the resistor #'s are 3159 & 3160. They are the 6.8 ohm 1W, or 6R8 on the drawing. Could the cap on this circuit be bad? This was part of the original problem, these go to the red yoke. Better yet, here are the voltage readings on the yokes, before with the bleeding highlights, and after with the white picture. Usually the low voltages are attributed to a capacitor that is not performing right under load. however the only way to diagnose the capacitors is in circuit with an ESR meter, those are very exspensive unless you purchase a kit and put it together yourself. I know the following link has the ESR meter kit that needs to be assembled for a reasonable price. You may want to consider getting one, the other alternative is buying a capacitance meter and removing each capacitor from circuit and checking them. here is the link that may be your best bet they do offer free tech support as well.

there are literally about 50 to 60 capacitors and there is no way of determining which without checking them cause the faulty one could be in the convergence circuits. The video circuits or the drive circuits for the color that is affected, Wish i could help more but there is no easy way to find the cause without the proper equipment other than taking each cap out one at a time and checking it with a capacitance meter as that will check them out of circuit, but an ESR meter is needed to check them in circuit

What are the resistor Board location numbers of the resistors that keep frying? Send me the numbers such as RXXX and RXXX and i will check the schematics and see what I can figure out for you.

There are about 12 of those 6.8 ohm 1 watt resistors and usually 2 or 4 will go open. have you checked all of them with 1 side of each resistor lifted out of circuit? I would say you still have a resistor or two that are open or outside of the 5% tolerance required, if they check out then I would suspect the capacitors in the red vertical and horizontal circuits may be having a low ESR.

Convergence PROBLEM pHILLIPS mAGNAVOX 60" rEAR pROJECTION

Hi,

All i can say is that this is very common.May be it is not the convergence circuit in this case. it is the power supply not giving the convergence circuit the power it needs to run. there are several parts that need to be repalced here.

Or may be the convergence amplifiers need to be replaced. They're on the Small Signal Board (the one with the tuner[s] on it) and the part on the amp's (there are two on them, replace both) start with STK and will be followed by some numbers and pssosibly letters, such as STK392-110.

Goodluck,

I have a hitachi 43FDX15B RPTV It appears to have a convergence problem, I've read about replacing the stk IC's but which resistors need to be replaced and what are the values on the DP15k/08 Board?

This model uses two of the STK-392-120 CHIPS and here are most of the usual resistors to suspect or check:

Hitachi AT03411S RK43 RESISTOR Hitachi AT03608S RP22 RESISTOR Hitachi AT03195S RK46,RK54, RK62 RESISTOR, 1.8OHM 1W Hitachi AT03857M R815,R865 RESISTOR, 1/2W 100 OHM Hitachi AT03191S RK50 RESISTOR, 1W 1.2 OHM Hitachi AT03197S RK50 RESISTOR, 1W 2.2 OHM Hitachi AT03199S RK41 RESISTOR, 2.7 OHM 1W Hitachi AT03202S RK42 RESISTOR, 3.3OHM 1W Hitachi AT03204S RK58 RESISTOR, 3.9 OHM 1 WATTThe RK ones are all marked on top and bottom of circuit board---usually if one is bad you will be able to see it is discolored---all are very low value and should read open or good only.

This is a fairly easy set to do this on---the whole convergence board (right side from the back view) is held in with 3 screws and an assortment of plugs--3 plugs are identical (convergence yokes and you need to mark so you get each back in same place)

A row of black snap plugs on the left side and with the screws and other plugs removed the board will lift up and out of the set.

DON'T waste your money on one of the "kits" being sold on the net---you can buy a pair of the chips for about 12 dollars on Ebay and usually only one (if any) of the resistors will be bad---those kits sound like a good idea but at 50-80 you are buying things you will not likely need to repair the set.

Let me know if you have any questions and if this information helped you rate this solution as I do this here for free.

If the tin can module you are referring to is the hyper module, it is common to replace all 11 caps because the factory caps ****. Check for bridged solder connections at STK's search the forum at electromaniacs for 50h81 :)

TV Has 3D Look Hitting used to fix but not anymore

The convergence IC's are bad. (They are probably STK392-110) If you look at the connections, yuo'll probably see little rings in the solder where the pins come thru the board. Your problem probably started as bad connections and has now led to complete failure of the IC's. Replace them both. Look for burned resistors

Red Wavy lines running across the screen...

Yes - - that indicates one of your convergence amps have failed. That unit takes two STK392-110 Sanyo amps which I personally would replace with STK392-150's for greater reliability. Also check all of the return resistors in that circuit 1.5 ohm 2w and feed resistors 3.3 ohm 1w all are flameproof. You'll likely find that one or more of the return resistors are bad, with suspecting the red is the failed amp check in particular R846 for change in value or open.

Convergence problem???

Check the resistors by the STK ic's, should be 2.2 ohms. Under the heat sink, also check the 1.8 Ohm 1W, fusible resistors found around the area as well.
Good Luck.

Convergence problem

That unit has a convergence repair kit that should fix most problems. Order it directly from Hitachi p/n# X480295. It contains: Rk42 3.3 Ohm 1w Rk46 1.8 Ohm 1w Rk50 3.3 Ohm 1w Rk54 1.8 Ohm 1w Rk58 3.9 Ohm 1w Rk62 2.2 Ohm 1w Ik04 Stk392-150 Ik05 Stk392-150 And I would strongly recommend testing all the resistors in that circuit for change in value. Are you using a good heat sink compound on the STK's when you installed them? That and ordering the japanese knock-offs for STK's are the two most common critical mistakes made. Originally that unit had two STK392-110's for conv. amps. Even Hitachi recommends subbing to a STK392-150 or 180 for greater reliability. You do realize that for the cost you have after two failed attempts you probably could have taken this to a reputable shop and watching the ball games now. :) (no disrespect intended) Good Luck!
