My screen has started flickering and going black. It happens randomly and it is almost as if it is going into standby mode even if I am on the laptop doing something. Half the time it turns off the other half it goes into hibernation and I can hit the start button to bring the screen back up again (of course that is after about 5-10 min though). What the heck is going on? Can this be fixed? Software related? Hardware related? I am at a loss?

Re: More Toshiba Screen Problems
Yes it can be fix. It coudl be eihter software malfuctioning or hardware. Either one. This has many options as the problem to elemenate.
Does the screen goes blank on any specific software?
If no then if definately hardware. This is can be solve by checkin motherboard if screen connection is correct on & getting enough power. If that is done & problerm continues the screen port on the mother board is faulty.
If yes then its the software thats being giving problems just re-install the software over. after removing it.but the possibilty if that is low so i wud say it more hardware.

The problem actually will happen to all notebooks. Some problems happen on certain models more often. Also, it depends on how often the user closes and opens the notebook.
The data cable is usually the problem and it happens where the most pressure on the cable lies. The data cable will most likely need to get replaced. It is recommended that you take it to a service center. The cost should not exceed $145.00
not to get to concerned just yet, a few tips, when you press on the top of the laptop case by the screen area in the back of the laptop do you notice the screen flickering off? and when you let go dose it come back on? if so this can be a faulty wire or bad inverter, they are actually both very simple to fix and relatively cheap fixes.
If you're working on the computer when that happens, it's not probably a power setting. Try to update your BIOS to the most current version at the toshiba support website (support.toshiba.com) & see what happens. Fixes the issue most of the time
yes i have had this problem before
the propper signal isnt getting to the screen from the mother board
has anything been spilt on the screen or the computer its self
i would suggest taking it to a tech they should be able to fix your problems
Access BIOS and test if the flickering continues.
If not, it is a Software problem, do a full system recovery If yes, it is a hardware issue, better contact Toshiba tech support to have your LCD repaired if you are still in warranty.
If your not in warranty, you need to check out the LCD harness that might have been loosely connected.
