Question about Remington Precision HC-8017 Hair Trimmer

1 Answer

My clippers are no longer cutting. I took it apart today and cleaned out all the hair but I still can't get it to cut. I felt it and it's very sharp it's just not cutting any hair. I have been told it might be the blade not set properly. Is there a way that I can get a diagram on how to put it together? Or do you have any idea's? We have only had it for about a year and don't use it often. It shouldn't be broken yet or I bought a piece of junk and seriously will never buy another remington again in my life. Tell me that it's a simple solution.

There is probably hair stuck between the cutters
remove the cutters from the clipper and you can push the top blade out from under the spring retainer making sure you keep the small plastic runner strip
clean the surfaces and using a flat bladed screw drive insert the blade under the spring and twist slightly to allow the top blade to slide back in
while it feels sharp , it is the sides of the cutter fingers that cut the hair ( like miniature guillotines) and those edges are easily worn off

SOURCE: Hair Clippers not clipping

All clipper/trimmer blades must be oiled both before and after use. Hold the unit with the blades pointed toward the floor. Put a dab of oil across the front of the blades and turn the unit on to get the oil distributed through the entire blade. Turn the unit off and wipe the blades with a soft cloth to remove any excess oil.

SOURCE: The clipper blade adjustment on my Remington Hair

The part that you require is not available for budget models like the HC-8017. You will need to purchase a new clipper or find an old one (ebay?) that you can buy cheaply for parts.
If you decide to replace your HC-8017 clipper, you will find them for sale at shaveroutlet.com

Sound as though the blade drive needs replacing, commonly you will notice tram lines in the cut on your longer blades or the shorter blades struggling to cut

Check your blade latch is working properly. If you took your clipper apart and your blades are not cutting it is one of 2 things. Your blade drive is not assembled properly or your blade latch is not holding the blade on the clipper. If you took your blade apart, check the blade alignment. The cutter blade needs to be slightly behind the comb blade.

Oster Golden A5 Clippers will not cut

These kinds of clippers are fussy about oiling and dirt. It is essential that the blades be spotless and well oiled FREQUENTLY. Oil after every haircut always. Also, if there is not enough tension on the blades, the hair will slip between the blade and blade guard, getting caught and damaging the blades. Blades should be screwed on tight. Also, it may be time to replace the blade if nothing else helps. These blades do not last very long in my experience especially if not carefully cleaned and oiled.
