Well you can just use the hdmi cable if you're going both audio and video in to your tv. With your hdmi cable you get the best quality for both.
But in anycase, it seems that your PS3 is set up to output video via HDMI cable. To reset our video output settings, simply power down your PS3 (turned off) and hold down the power button until you hear the second beep. (around 5-10 secs) Power back up and hopefully you'll have video via your av cable. Hope this helps.
Heya Tllynn2200, It is really unlikly that an electrical storm could of blown out just the visual of the ps3 without damaging anything else. I would say that your ps3 has just changed the output, Turn the ps3 off at the back switch leave it off for ten seconds then turn it back on using the back switch, Now with the on button at the front press and hold that button and let me know how you go, That will reset the display back to factory output and should display on any cable. Please let me know if this worked or not and will go from there
Call sony 1-800-345-SONY (7669) ask them what to do and their price on it!
There is a fix but it normally requires you to take the seal off and if you dont want to attempt that then you can send it back or sell it to me ;) I do buy broken ps3's.
If you are willing to have a go at it via yourself let me know I can help you get the parts and fix it!
The Problem might be that on the Back of the Ps3 the Red yellow and white plug is loose i have this problem but you have to adjust it once in awhile and try to plug it in the back of the TV or the front depends really.
