Question about HP DVD1040i 20x Super Multiformat Dvd Writer, Internal Burner

4 Answers

Recent Dvd player was connected to computer. However computer does not recognise it

I have hooked up a dvd burner to my computer. When I click "My Computer" the Dvd burner does not show up. Any help would be appreciated.

I looked at this link http://geeksquad.fixya.com/support/r380953-missing_dvd_cd_rom_drive_letter

Would this be the answer to my problems?

RIGHT Click My Computer - select Properties - select Device Manager - then RIGHT Click the DVD drive - scan for hardware changes. I had the same issue and this is what fixed it.

Make sure the power cord is connected - mine did not take until the power cord was connected. and make sure the installation CD is installed. If you have Vista, you may need to visit HP's website, even though the product said "works with Vista".

Do not edit the Registry - any mistake here will crash your computer and may require a reinstall of Windows and all other programs!

RIGHT Click My Computer - select Properties - select Device Manager - then RIGHT Click the DVD drive listing - select Update Driver (have your disk ready).

This should solve your problem.

Good luck.

I hooked up my GZ-HD3 camcorder to my CU-VD3U share station, copied all files to dvd-R and my dvd's will not play in ANY dvd player. How do I correct this?

It all depends on what file type your camcorder save video's in and what file types are compatible with your DVD player.

Many camcorders save files on a card as MPEG4, you have to check what yours does.

Its ok to write to a DVD but you have to make sure your DVD player can play MPEG4. If not then convert your files or save your files in a format your DVD player can recognise ie MPEG1 or AVI.

Finally, once you've copied videos in a format your dvd plays, make sure you "Finalize" the disk.
This means that you can't copy any more data, but it makes the disk readable on other players.

Computer doesnt recognise dvd drive

make sure that the dvd burner is getting enough power test all leads that are attached to the dvd burner including electical extensions and make sure they have a secure connection or just replace them there might be bad/faulty or
your drivers may have been corrupted or you might have a virus run your antivrus program
you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd burner then plug them back in or
you might have to uninstall then reinstall your DVD/CD or uninstall the driver then reinstall for this device
control panel admistrive tools, computer management, device manager scroll down cd dvd rom drives right click you can you can update driver, roll back driver,or
select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall
hope this helps
if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem

Close all open programs

Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

SYSTEM

CurrentControlSet

Control

Class

{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

Upper Filters

Lower Filters

Upper Filters.bak

Lower Filters.bak

If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete
After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer
Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

Dvd not recognised

“To install, and Update Hardware, click to open “Computer” from the “Desktop”, check to see if there is a DVD-RW Drive (D :), for external different (E or F:).
I. Look in the “Device with Removable Storage area,” see if the device is present, if so? Do the following: to “setup” the ('player') for “Installation.”
II. Right click on (DVD) “Media Player” select (“Install”) follow all instructions thereafter.
III. If the area is (Blank?), “go to,” and 'click' on the "Start button" click all “Programs” scroll for a Media Disk Player”, open, and do the (“same as above”) for the installation. *Note: “Do the same for “Setup” (above) “Install.”

How do I Install my LG GCC-4320B

ok take this step to connect the cd 0r dvd drive

To install an external DVD drive:
  1. When purchasing a new drive be sure to understand the many formats available: DVD, DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD+/-R, DVD+/-RW are a few for example. More recent technologies include DVD-DL, HD DVD and Blu-Ray Disc. A decent DVD drive should be able to read and write both "+" and "-" technologies and also support recordable (R) and re-writable (RW) technology. Essentially look for a DVD+/-RW drive if you plan on recording DVD's, or just a plain DVD drive for reading DVD's (movies, games, etc). There are a variety of speeds from 2x-16x for a wide spectrum of users and needs; higher speeds will record faster.
  2. If you have a USB connection on your computer you can use an external drive. The advantage to an exterior drive is that you can use it on other computers as well.
  3. To install an external DVD, just follow the instructions provided with the drive.
To install an internal DVD drive:
  1. Look for a DVD with the letters RW on the box. This is so you can read disks and record them as well. Make sure the speed rating is 16X and that the DVD is dual layer so that it takes care of the latest technology.
  2. Read the instructions that come with the DVD. It may require you to load the provided CD software before installing the DVD player. Leave the disk in your CD ROM player for the rest of the procedure.
  3. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the computer (goes to the wall socket of your house.)
  4. Open the case of the computer.
  5. Locate the hard disk or CD drive. Most have two connections and can only be snapped in place one way. One connection is for data and one for power.
  6. Check to see if your computer mounts the DVD/CD ROM drives from the inside or if they are pushed through the front panel (you may have to remove the plastic panel on some models.)
  7. Carefully remove the plastic “knock-off?? cover on the outside of your computer. Make sure you do this only when you are ready to install the DVD drive.
  8. Slide the DVD drive into an empty compartment or bay. If it’s an older computer you can secure it with screws that come with the DVD drive. Many newer computers have spring clips to secure the drive in place.
  9. Connect the DVD drive to the data cable. The data cable is wide like a ribbon and is also called a ribbon cable and has a red stripe on one side. There are two or three connectors on the data cable. One is connected to the circuit board, one is connected to your CD drive or hard disk and one in the middle (optional third connector) is usually not connected to anything. Use the middle connector for the DVD drive. If your data cable only has two connectors replace it with the one that is generally included with the new drive.
  10. Hook the DVD to the power connector. This is a normal round looking cable. There are usually several power connectors in the computer.
  11. If you don’t have an available power connector, then you can buy a “Y?? connector to hook up to the existing power cable. Unhook the power connector and hook it to one side of the “Y?? and hook the DVD to the other side of the “Y??.
  12. Re-assemble the cover and plug the computer back in.
  13. When you run Windows up it should look for the drivers for the new DVD player and automatically locate and load them from the CD ROM that you left in the CD player from the first step.

thanks
ok bye...........................

Sounds like the laser pick-up is not reading the disc, or the spindle motor is not spinning so the dvd can be read.

Hi,
do you have a dvd viewing program installed on the Computer.
Like Power DVD Or Nero.
Try installing one of these or a recent version of Windows media Player. I,d recommend Version 9-10 if your running XP.
