Question about MSI G41TM-E43 LGA 775 Intel G41 HDMI Micro ATX Intel Motherboard (7592-030R)

2 Answers

Hi: from: tedlessley@earthlink.net please help. my new msi g41tm-e43 board with windows 7 was operating well for several weeks. suddenly, the power on button would not cause the system to power up -- no boot at all. i replaced the 500 watt cooler master power supply with a new one -- pretested successfully -- did not solve the problem. tried pushing the power on button multiple times -- no good. tried shorting pins 6-8 on the front panel connect socket repeatedly -- nothing happened -- except a momentary 1 second response from the cooling fans.

    hi:

i trust that you will have the previous correspondence on my failure to power up from the front panel button.

if not, my discussion was with "hbristol173" of your group.

i do not have another cpu to substitute as suggested finally by hbristol173 to determine whether the problem is with the cpu or the motherboard.

i'm still wondering about a bios problem.

is this situation fixable by clearing the cmos?

The board is bad...especially if you shorted pins 6-8 and got no power up.

Hello thanks for asking, there are several reasons that can cause this problem, you should try plug your computer into a different wall outlet the present one may have a fault,{2) you can try using a different power cable the one use can be faulty,(3) you can check the connections to the motherboard tho make sure they are correct , the power connector and the 4 pin connector which power the CPU. Try these solutions and let me know if any work

    hi hbristol173:

    thanks for your response.

1 & 2. i tried two different ac power cables.
i plugged the new one and a good old one into different ports of my power strip and also separately plugged them straight into the ac wall socket. no change except a momentary bump in the fans again.

    3. i disconnected the 20 pin and its 4 pin and then reinserted both of them solidly into the motherboard socket. correct wire colors were verified.
also disconnected the cpu 12v 4pin and substituted the associated second 12v 4pin in its cable pack into its place.

to go further, i disconnected all the front panel wires from the motherboard and inserted only the power on connector. no result at all.

    please continue.

    another step.

again, i tried shorting pins 6-8, the power on button pins on the motherboard connector , but this did not produce any result.

maybe this a problem with my new msi g41tm-e43 motherboard.

    maybe, a bios code problem?

with no power up, i can't get to the bios.

Thanks for the reply the problem is with the motherboard or the CPU if you have another CPU you can put it on the motherboard to see if it will work, if it does that mean its the PRESENT CPU if it don't work this mean its the motherboard. But you don't have another CPU you can take the motherboard and let someone test it for you.

This problem has nothing to do with th BIOS its a power problem which can be cause by a dead motherboard or dead CPU you already try the other solutions and the problem still exist, the and the only way to determine the problem another CPU or another motherboard is needed. Otherwise your power button on the case is dead or you did not make the right connection on the motherboard, thats my solutions other than these i am out of ideas.

    Thank you

I'd have to agree; bad power regulator on the motherboard.
The board is getting some power (3-5v) since the CPU fans move, but it's not getting the 12v it needs to power the processor, RAM, etc. (No onboard power LED). Sorry for the bad news!

No DVI signal on G41TM-E43

Download the driver from here:

http://www.msi.com/product/mb/G41TM-E43.html#/?div=Driver&os=Win7%2064

Please select your windows system 32 or 64 bit.
Download the vga driver and unzip the file.
Uninstall the old one before you install the new.
Check also your bios for the graphic settings.

My advice is to buy a better graphic card to insert in the pci-e socket instead of using the onboard graphic for better performance.

Good luck

I have had a motherboard failure the MS-7357 (V1.X) Mainboard... needing upgrade thinking of the MSI G41TM-E43 LGA 775 Intel G41 will i have to mess arround with the power switches with the case as this...

Boards don't come with switches. The problem with company made computers is that they get a manufacturer to make a board especially for the case they make. They do this to specifically stop you doing what you are trying to do, upgrade a machine with a proprietary board in THEIR case. You will find trouble at the rear of the machine getting to sockets and plugs.

It is far better to buy a good case, and then you can swap out components with ease. The case that held my Asus boarded P4 with the first SATA drives now has an Asus Quad Core in it with SATA 2.

make sure that your little speaker is plugged in to the correct pins. This gets many people every time. If the speaker isn't plugged into the correct slot you're definitely not going to get anything to work...yeah i know...a silly speaker...you can have quite a few things plugged incorrectly and things will still work but if you have the speaker plugged into the wrong one...then ur dead in the water...find the little cylindrical speaker and try plugging it into a different slot...really look on that board for it. Should be labeled JFP2..connect the speaker to the 4 pin side of that 7 pin connection.
