Top thread not picking up the bobbin

Machine was locking up finally got it unstuck but now the top thread is not picking up the thread from the bobbin. LS-1717 is my third brother machine I puchased it to use for straight seems and button holes would like to fix it because I have also had numerous problems with my Disney embroidery machine I have found these machines to be very econimical and would hate for this to be the end of my my commitment to your brand. I also use my machines to supplemnt my income as I am single mother who for the last 20 years or so I have sewn to make life easier for my children. I would love to further my abilities sewing to make my childrens' wedding dresses and make things for my future grand-children. Please help me to make the necessary repairs.

Be sure that you have a new needle in your machine, and make sure that there isn't a piece of material stuck in the bobbin area.

Why does the top thread sometimes picks up the hook and then picks up bobbin but bobbin then crosses over and makes a mess? Wont work

Basic Tips for All
  1. Always turn the handwheel TOWARDS you (counter clockwise) as turning it in the opposite direction (away from you, clockwise) may knock the timing out requiring repair from a service center.
  2. Always be sure your presser foot is in the DOWN position before sewing. Sewing with the presser foot in the up position will cause your thread to tangle and your bobbin to jam.
  3. Change needles regularly (after 16 hours of use) as dull/weak needles can cause damage to your machine and fabric. Only use SINGER needles on your SINGER sewing machine.
  4. Always be sure you are using the correct bobbin for your machine. Class 66, Class 15 and Class 15J bobbins look very similar. However, using the incorrect bobbin class in your machine can cause damage.

The bobbin thread will not pick up. The machine had jammed and I forced the wheel and can't get bobbin thread to pick up. When I thread manually, I only get holes, no stitches. Is it a timing belt?

check your needle to see if it's bent---roll on flat surface to see if it roll correctly
on some sewing machines when the thread comes off the thread take up lever it can cause the machine to jam
also if the bobbin thread becomes tangled it can jam
check the bobbin area for lint or loose threads
try having a top thread tail & bobbin thread tail of 3-4 inches
try holding the top thread tail & turn the handwheel on the right side on the machine manually & put the needle down into the bobbin area & see if the bobbin thread will pick up that way

Top thread will not pick up bobbin thread. If it

Check the needle to be sure it is inserted with the flat side of the needle shank to the back of the machine.

If this is not the problem, the machine may need the timing adjusted. This is best done by a sewing machine tech.

Needle thread will not pick up bobbin thread

Needle may need to be changed. Be sure it is the correct needle for the machine.

Not picking up the Bobbin thread

Sounds like you have to take off the throat plate and clean out threads under it.  Sometime they ball up and prevent the needle from going down and catching the bobbin thread. You can't see themuntil you take off the plate.  Follow the directions.  It is easy.

Not picking up the Bobbin thread

I cleaned the machine good with canned air, oiled it. I took out the bobbin case and cleaned it good also. I then noticed the tension screw on the bobbin case was loose, tightened it and the problem was fixed.
