Question about Toshiba TP50H95 50" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Toshiba TP50H95 The above model tv will work just fine and then it will all of a sudden get curved lined running accross the screen. They are comma shapped they start at the bottom left and arc up and across to the bottom right. Most of the time you can see the 3 colors seperatly. It used to happen when the furnace kicked on and I thought I was getting dirty power. I hooked it to a different power and still had the same issue. Now that the weather is warmer and the furnace is not running it still does it. Do you know what the problem could be. I have adjusted the projectors and that is fine. If you want you can email me direct also. I am not sure if I will be able to find where it will be posted on the website. Thanks!

I have looking online for a service manual and I can not find one. If anyone has one could you please post it or send it to me. Thanks!!!!

I will take a look at that and get back to you, thanks! It seems like the tv works great when it is first turned on and then gets worse when it warms up. Do you think I should install a cooling fan after I make the repair you suggest? It sits cross-ways in the corner of the room so it is not tight to the wall. ?? Thanks again.

PS the manual you sent was a owners manual, do you have a service manual?

You were spot on! I checked that out on Saturday and found 2 post's that needed to be re-soldered. Looks like they had been hit once before by someone. Not sure but I think I could have soldered them by going through the bottom vent holes and not disassembled the TV. Well so far so good, it has been working great. Thanks for the great info and the manuals!!!! YOU DA MAN!!!!!

It sounds like intermittent loss of convergence and you should be able to cure that by taking a look at the convergence amps and locating one or more ring-cracked solder connections. Resoldering them should fix the problem. The amps are two STK392-110 Sanyo Ic's mounted to an aluminum heat sink. Remove that board and visually inspect where they solder to the foil side of the board.
Good Luck!
PS I'll send the manual via Pando to your address. You'll need Pando to download it and a PDF reader to view it. Both are free downloads if you don't already have them....

The wavy when cold is a issue with a board in the set--Hyper board--the warmup until it begins to work will gradually get longer and longer.

The blue: look at set on a unused video input--if see faint curved blue lines with some blue visable on the screen the blue screen control needs to be adjusted just slightly down until the blue and curved lines are not seen.

No picture. Just a vertical line accross the screen.

When this kind of set comes in for this problem, it is typically caused by a leaky/intermittent diode D402, located next to the heat sink for the vertical deflection IC. I will typically also replace the vertical deflection IC at the same time, just to avoid repeat failures.

Picture often flickers and image distorts every few minutes

The trouble is most likely in the Video processor. If the trouble looks like its tearing the video only from side to side it may be the line doubler circuit. Some of these boards are no longer available but a good TV tech may be able to componnent level repair it for you.

I have a black line accross my LCD t.v. screen

if it is a thin black line then it is probably a line of pixels out. if this is the case, the whole screen will have to be replaced and that can get pricey. i would suggest that you get it checked out by a tv tech and get an estimate, but it'll probably be cheaper to just get a new one

White lines accross top of screen on our 27 inch Toshiba,

lcd or plasma.
are the lines solid or blurred. do they have sharp edges.
You may have a memory problem with the display which can only be repaired by factory trained technicians, or a brave soul willing to find parts on ebay.

You will need to trouble shoot the start up and shutdown circuits. Often this is a minor component failing causing the set to not power up or go into protective shutdown. Do you have the service manual for this TV?
