I have a couple of HP netbooks. After a while, I had to squeeze the metal part of the plug into an oval shape with a pair of needle-nose pliers to get it to make good contact with the jacks again.

Staring down the barrel of the plug, I squeezed the sides as maked with arrows. This also tighens the center contact...

Ultimately, though, I had to cut the plugs off and solder on replacement plugs I matched up at Radio Shack.

If it's been dropped or otherwise abused, perhaps the contact traces on the jack have broken off from the motherboard. This would require repair or replacement of the motherboard by a qualified technician.

Try this:

1. remove the AC Adaptor.
2. remove the battery. wait for about 10 to 15 mins.
3. plug the AC adaptor and switch on.

Hope this helps.
If it does please vote. Thanks.

What the solution of laptop hp compaq nc6000 when turn on won't start up

For this kind of issue, please follow up the following steps to check:

1.confirm the battery and ac adapter connect the laptop normally.Maybe the bad connect lead to this problem. If there are no lights when you turn on laptop, one of possible reason is that your adapter is malfunction.

2.the second possible cause is laptop dc jack failure. If the dc jack is broken or loose, you are required to replace it or repair it.

3.Another possible reason is that there is something wrong with laptop motherboard. For this situation, it includs two kinds of possibility,a failure in an electronic circuit and BGA malfunction.

For more detailed reasons and solutions, please have a look at the following article:http://www.ifitjams.com/lappower.htm

If you verify your laptop adapter is dead and you plan to order a new one, I recommend one for you on the basis of your laptop model:

My hp netbook wont turn on, what shoud i do?..

Here below are possible causes and troubleshooting steps of laptop that can't power on, hope it may help:
Possible causes:

1. AC adapter failure.
2. Power jack failure.
3. Motherboard failure.

Possible troubleshooting steps and repair solutions:
1. Test the AC adapter with a digital multimeter. It's possible that you have a failed AC adapter. If you don't have a multimeter, test your laptop with another known good AC adapter.

2.It's possible that power jack (socket where you plug the AC adapter) is broken. Remove the motherboard and take a closer look at the power jack. In some cases you can fix the jack by resoldering it on the motherboard. In other cases you have to replace the jack with a new one. Using a multimeter, test if the power goes to the motherboard through the jack.

3. If replacing the AC power adapter and jack on the motherboard doesn't help, most likely you have a bad motherboard. Replace the motherboard.

My HP Mini 'sees' the installed battery and tells me it is charging it (while plugged into the wall). It works normally while plugged in, but won't even start from the battery alone.

How do u replace the power jack its not the cord i tried to replace that and still didnt detect the cord

Hello.

The most common reasons for power issues are the battery, power adapter/cord and power jack.

If you move/wiggle the power adapter at the point where it connects to the laptop, and the power goes off and on, the power jack is the problem.

The power jack is inside the laptop and either needs soldering or replacement.

If no change, the power adapter is probably faulty and needs replacement.

Also, power off and remove the battery. If the laptop powers on with just the adapter connected, your battery is faulty.

For laptops, remove the heatsink and apply new thermal paste or the motherboard may need replacing.

Leave the power jack fix and heatsink application to an expert.

Hope this helps.

I have a gateway 3250GZ laptop, the DC in jack

http://forums.whatthetech.com/DC_Jack_Laptop_t105164.html

double check your power cord! i just went thru 3 days of troubleshooting my Gateway M6318. Thought it was my dc jack.... after tearing down my laptop... finding the jack in tact, soldering in tact. testing my power cord... off and on for 3 days.. it was reading 19v.. which is what it should... but as of today began zero reading on tester. Tomorrow I will buy a new power cord to see if this was the correct problem... wish i would have found the above reference site before all the other troubleshooting i had done... tearing down my lap top, pulling, tugging, twisting my power cord to get a good charge.... etc. hope this helps!
