    Same issue...what is the fix?

  • Anonymous Nov 16, 2008

    Same problem - eventually leaks like crazy and I have to turn it off

  • scooterboi Dec 02, 2008

    Same problem. The only thing that will shut the water off is to turn down the humidistat to 10% - not a solution. I have an extra wire (female connector) coming out of the hudifier that I think might be part of the issue.

Yes, I have a solution ! I had this problem and tried all the dip switch settings mentioned in the manual. Eventually I just watched the heating cycle to see what was going on. It did all work properly, the heat came on, the water came on, the heat went off and the water went off when the air cooled off. But the fan continues to run until the furnace is completely cool. A little while after the fan stopped the humidifier water supply came on again and stayed on till the next cycle. Eventually I figured out what was happening was that residual heat from the furnace was drifting back through the supply duct and was warm enough to re-trigger the temperature switch that turns the water on. The solution is simple. Close down the control blade of the duct on the hot air side to about 50% Now there is less likelyhood of warm air drifting back and re-triggering the flow valve. I don't recall of any mention in the manual of how to set this blade control so I guess most people leave it wide open. Anyway, this worked for me.

I just fixed mine. Remove the solenoid and coil from the unit. Disconnect the 24VAC electrical and plumbing etc. remove the lock from the coil (black part). Its a "U" shaped clip device. This should allow the solenoid to come free. Remove the two screws from the base of the solenoid. Now the armature pin should come out. Inspect the base (within the solenoid). It has a raised "nipple" where the rubber of the armature "seats" itself. In my case, it had disintegrated on one side, causing a bad seal when the armature was "closed". Take a small grinder tool and very carefully, grind this (nipple within the solenoid base) so you have an even "face" for the rubber piece of the armature to "seat" against. Reassemble...
enjoy 1) not pouring water down the drain 2) teaching yourself a bit about solenoid valves etc 3) getting to play with your tools. 4) not spending $60+ for a new one of these things 5) experience in knowing how to disassemble/fix it the next time
Cheers

Here's a link to the install manual.

Check out the section on setting the dip switches, it may help.

    The link I posted before is not exactly what I thought it was but it still may be of use.

    If I find the actual manula I'm looking for I will pass it along.

    yes, apparently for mine and most furnaces, the middle one should be one and the others off. but even then i seem to need to set it to above 50% to go on at all. i will check the selenoid.

Why does furnace overheat and the limit switch shuts it off?

Are you in the North East region of US?
For the pass 6 days I saw a lot of postings for furnace and humidifier failures.
Partly is because the weather but the root cause is lack of maintenance.
====
User think LIFETIME Electrostatic air filter is maintenance free.
That is not true.
It's wash-able and need to be handle with care.
Inspect the air filter and replace it..
====
Lack of air circulation cause the furnace frame from burning efficient (BLUE FRAME) to orange / red color.
Over time, the temperature sensor will be coated with carbon deposit and record a higher temp reading.
They circuit will activate the fail safe and not allow the igniter to start on.
In your case, limit switch shut itself off.
Here is a LINK to pictures of Weather King temp probes and sensors.
A clean filter and temp sensor will save you money.
Dial back the furnace to 65F until you can get hold of the filter and clean the sensor.
==== If the MODEL TAG is still in plain view then please post it on reply.
Please keep me posted on the fix via email.

I have water leaking out the bottom of my furnace when the aprilaire 700 is working. I have tried everything to resolve. It was working fine last month. I changed the water filter, cleaned the lines...

How old it your Aprilaire 700?
Eventually they all need maintenance, cleaning or replacing dirty or inoperative parts. The bottom Water tray has a drain tube that needs to be cleaned or replaced every fall as it will plug up with mineral deposits washed down from the unit. Adding a water filter to the inlet line (if you don't already have one) will reduce mineral scale build up and reduce the need for cleaning and maintenance. Some water filters may bypass uinfiltered water when very dirty. If thats OK, then the solenoid valves could be dirty, worn and now leaking all the time (not shutting off at end of operation cycle) These valves, 2 usually 1 Low volt operated 24 VDC supplied by thermostat and or humidistat when caling for heat, and 1 High volt 120 or 240 VAC suppiied by furnace fan delay switch, All Gas furnaces have a fan delay to allow the heat exchanger to warm up so the furnace does not blow cold air at the at the start of every cycle of heating. Both have to br powered on to allow water flow.
Click on the link below and read the Aprilaire Manual maintenance page. This Manual covers several models, so disregard parts not pertaining to your model number.
Remember to turn of electrical power to unit, furnace, air handler if a split unit, and don't attempt anything your not exceeding your experience level.

What part do we replace first?

Door safety switch. You are sure you have power to furnace? jump out the G and R terminals on the furnace control board or turn your thermostat to Fan On to check. Make sure the door safety switch is in the closed position. Fan should come on. No fan, no power to unit. Check Emergency switch, circuit breaker and there may be a fuseable link in the wiring somewhere either above the unit or a condensate safety switch. Get power to the unit. Also check to see if there is a small fuse in the wiring inside the furnace or on the circuit board.
