You have to wind up the spring drum. the round thing, be sure to wind it the correct way. in the pull of the direction.
Wind up about five time then attach the cord.

there is a slide switch on the L.H. side of the key board that reads 10,12,15, PS
the switch needs to match the print wheel stile you have in your typewriter. most typ's have 10 or 12.
PS stands for proportional spacing a takes a spicule print wheel

The linespace selector lever is probably at zero 0
try moving it to 1 1 1/2 or 2. There is also a detent lever that releases the ratchet of the roller. You should feel a bumping when you move the roller wheel.
