My windows XP has an error message when started. It says "MISSING NTLDR, PRESS CTRL, ALT, DEL TO RESTART" I tried restart with boot disk but nothing. Please help!?

How to Fix NTLDR Errors

  1. Restart the PC. The NTLDR error could be a fluke.
  2. Check your floppy and optical (CD/DVD/BD) drives for media and disconnect any external drives. Often times, the "NTLDR is Missing" error will appear if your PC is trying to boot to a non-bootable floppy disk, CD/DVD/BD, or external hard drive or flash drive.

Note: If you find that this is the cause of your problem and it's happening a lot, you might want to consider changing the boot order in BIOS so the hard drive with Windows installed is listed first.
  3. Check the hard drive and other drive settings in BIOS and ensure they are correct. The BIOS configuration tells the computer how to use a drive so incorrect settings can cause problems, including NTLDR errors.

Note: There is usually an Auto setting for hard drive and optical drive configurations in BIOS which is usually a safe bet if you're not sure what to do.
  4. Restore the NTLDR and files from the Windows XP CD. Restoring these two important system files from the original Windows XP CD may do the trick.
  5. Repair or replace the boot.ini file. This will prevent the NTLDR error if the cause of the problem is a boot.ini file that is not configured properly for your Windows XP installation.
  6. Write a new partition boot sector to the Windows XP system partition. If the partition boot sector has become corrupt or isn't properly configured, you may receive the "NTLDR is Missing" error.
  7. Repair the Windows XP master boot record. NTLDR error messages may also appear if the master boot record is corrupt.
  8. Reseat all internal data and power cables. NTLDR error messages could be caused by loose or malfunctioning IDE cables.

Try replacing the IDE cable cable if you suspect it might be faulty.
  9. Update your motherboard's BIOS. Occasionally, an outdated BIOS version can cause the "NTLDR is Missing" error.
  10. Perform a repair installation of Windows XP. This type of installation should replace any missing or corrupt files. Continue troubleshooting if this does not resolve the issue.
  11. Perform a clean installation of Windows XP. This type of installation will completely remove Windows XP from your PC and install it again from scratch. While this will almost certainly resolve any NTLDR errors, it is a time consuming process due to the fact that all of your data must be backed up and then later restored.

If you can't gain access to your files to back them up, understand that you will

I Just install Windows 7 Home Premium and have a OKI c5150n printer connected by a wired router. My XP machine prints fine but I can't get "7" to show my printer drivers after loading them. I...

in the install did you set the printer as a local printer or a network printer? try connecting the printer to the pc with windows 7 directly this should load the correct driver under plug and play once it sees the printer connected. once the driver is set and you go through the install of the printer set it as a network printer.. and specify that it is connected over the interface for the wired router. hope this helps.

How can i down load yahoo.mesenger in my compter in window xp

You can download it from here (Click Here), open the link and click "Download Now" button. After it's installed, install will take several minutes since the actual yahoo messenger database would be downloaded from the server during the installation. You'd need to wait for the process until it's completed.

If you need further help, let me know.

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Turn on the computer get a blue screen says unmountable boot volume wont let me start in safe mode or any mode

Something has corrupted the boot information on your hard drive so Windows can't load. This might mean the hard drive itself has failed. but it might also just be a software problem. If you can borrow a Windows installation CD, you can try repairing the software. You didn't give your operating system, so I'm assuming you have XP.

On every Windows XP CD (it doesn't matter which version, Home or Professional, full or upgrade), there is a very handy tool called the Windows Recovery Console. Here is how to try repairing your Windows installation using it:
  1. Put your XP install CD in the drive and restart the computer so it boots from the CD. If your computer isn't set to boot from the CD first, you will need to change the boot order. Watch the screen when the computer starts up. On some systems you can reach a boot menu by pressing the specified key, or you might need to change the boot order by going into BIOS setup. Again, the key to press will be given at startup.
  2. After some time loading files from the CD, the setup program will show a screen saying "Welcome to Setup". Press R to start the Recovery Console.
  3. The Recovery Console will list Windows installations it finds and ask which you want to log on to. Usually there is only one installation, so press 1, then ENTER. (Note: At this point, if there are no Windows installations listed or you've gotten other error messages, either your hard drive is bad or your Windows installation has been wiped out, possibly due to a virus. All you can do is try a fresh, full reinstallation of Windows.)
  4. You'll be asked for the Administrator password. Unless you changed it when Windows was working, the password will be blank, so press ENTER. You will see a C:\WINDOWS> prompt.
  5. Enter the command CHKDSK /P and press ENTER. (You don't need to enter the command in capitals, I just did that for readability.)
  6. Let the command do its work. You'll probably see several messages about recovering or repairing errors. When it's finished, the Windows prompt will return.
  7. Type EXIT and press ENTER. Your computer will restart.
  8. Remove the CD so Windows will try starting from the hard drive normally. If the repair was successful, whatever was corrupted will be fixed and Windows will start up properly.
If the repair doesn't work, again it's either hardware (you need a new hard drive, or in some rare cases a new system board) or the Windows software was too damaged for repair and needs to be completely reinstalled.

Good luck with your repair, and thanks for using Fixya!

I have windows 7 on my acer aspire R1600 and i want to format it and install windows xp3 but it want find the hard disk, please help, it urgent

Your brand-new disk-drive probably has a SATA interface, whereas Windows XP expects that it has an PATA interface.

Thus, the Windows Installer does _not_ load the device-driver for SATA devices, and therefore "cannot find" your disk-drive.

Reinstall Windows 7 -- it's a much-better Operating System that the long-in-the-tooth Windows XP, and it will include support for all the other devices in your ACER that Windows XP will *NOT* support.

Some device may not have Vista drivers or the drivers are still beta and they dont work always perfectly. Check which kind of wireless adapter is present on your laptop from device manager on XP. Then try downloading Vista drivers for your wireless adapter form wireless card factory website, and install them on Vista.
