Question about Dell Inspiron 1300 Notebook

1 Answer

Good Morning. Currently I have 3 issues. Issue # 1 is the dreaded black Screen issue with my Dell Inspiron 1300 laptop. Issue # 2 is the laptop is not charging / using the battery which I can live with. (I purchased & installed a new battery which did not help with this issue. I also attempted the ?power down? option?. No Joy.) Issue # 3 is there is no sound. (Probably a driver that needs to be re-installed) The computer is 3 ¾ years old. I am running XP professional. I reloaded XP about 30 days ago(before the LCD issue surfaced). I have not installed any updates or the drivers that came on the laptop when I purchased it from Dell as the laptop was working perfectly for what I was using it for (except for Issue 2 & 3 above). I have an external monitor set up on the laptop which works, telling me (from what I have read) the video card is ok. During the boot up process, the LCD is operating normal. Once the computer comes online the screen will go black. If you look closely you will see the images on the screen. When I replaced the inverter, the computer worked normally (LCD screen was backlit) for about 45 minutes. It does seem that the screen does briefly light up intermittently while I am using the external monitor. When the screen does light up the external monitor then goes blank for a couple of seconds then lights back up while the LCD goes black again. (This may be from the cable connection as you cannot screw the cable into the port of the laptop.) The question is?. Did I get a bad inverter??? Did something make the new inverter go bad??? Or Should I just give up the ghost & say I got almost 4 good years out of the laptop and purchase a new one. Any Suggestions will be greatly appreciated

2) REMOVE THE BATTERY
3) HOLD DOWN THE POWER BUTTON FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS TO 2 MINUTES

Charging light is flashing

There are two possible causes for this issue:
1) Your dell 9400 charger is malfunction
2) Your laptop dc power jack is loose or dead

Possible troubleshooting step:
1) Borrow a compatible dell charger to plug in your laptop, if it works without any issue, it means your dell inspiron 9400 adapter need to be replaced.

2) If the compatible dell 9400 charger won't work normally, the problem may lie in your dc power jack.

Hope this will help.

only way to bypass this is use a recovery disk to boot from and then perhaps the issue will manifest itself

otherwise, it's the dreaded re format step

Hi, I have a dell inspiron 5100. I have two problems. 1) My screen is completely black and I have to use an external monitor. When I start my laptop, I can see the Dell Logo and after that is when...

for your video problem, you may be stuck in a different mode try holding the Fn key and hit F8 this toggles through the modes
1 - LCD on laptop only
2 - LCD and external Monitor
3 - External monitor Only

if this does not work you may have a LCD issue with the laptop .. let me know how it goes first

Dell inspiron 1300 display

Hi,
Does this happen regardless of operating system state? (e.g. if you interrupt normal booting to windows)? You could try booting from e.g. linux live cd to see whether the issue is operating system-specific or if it's caused by a hardware problem.
I've seen very similar symptoms on several Thinkpad T41s where ATI graphics chips were failing, I hope it's not the case with your dell.
Good luck,
Raf

Michelita,

Hi! I would like to thank you for this chance at solving a problems. The first problem seems like an easy fix. As for the second one, I would definitely need more information about the router (IE. make and model).

Issue #1
Please download the driver from here. Run the setup and be sure to follow any instructions during setup.

Issue #2
Pending more information.

Take care,
