First check for thread tangled in the bobbin area and remove it & any lint and etc.

If it is a top loader you must remove the metal needle plate, if front loader, there will be two black clips holding the bobbin case secure with a retaining collar........as you remove them be careful to note the position and orientation of the bits so when you re-assemble, you know where everything goes......a couple of digi-photos are not a bad idea for this.

If there is no thread jam, the shaft, either upper or lower, may be seized......if you can remove the top and bottom casings, a little penetrating spray (WD40 etc) may work, leave for an hour and try to work it free by hand back and forth gently....sometimes it can take several applications and many days depending on the level of corrosion.

Don't "drown" it in oil, and having something like kitchen towel around inside the carcass to absorb excess and runoff.

NOTE:
If you have a casing that is moulded in 2 sections (front & rear) rather than several panels for top, sides and bottom, DO NOT ATTEMPT to open it, you will spend an age in frustration and probably break the casing, they are the devil to open when you have a service manual and NOT something you want to try at home. If you have the 2 piece case, try spraying inside with the small tube attachment on the can via bobbin winder hole, behind and to the right of the bobbin region and any where else you can get the tube, a couple of quick shots in several locations, go and have a nice cup of tea then come back and check for any movement.

How do I oil a Kenmore 385 sewing machine

Are these the pictures you have?

Something you can do is slightly wiggle the handwheel (do not turn it in reverse). The handwheel should always turn toward you.
Look at the pictures and watch where metal rubs on metal that might match the picture and apply one drop of fresh, good quality sewing machine oil.

The clutch on my kenmore 1310 won't disengage when i go to wind the bobbin. i turn the clutch knob toward me, and the clutch is still engaged.the machine needle continues to operate while i wind the bobbin

May be one of two problems.
1st you should be able to turn the nob about 90-120 degrees. Not a full turn.
If this is not the case follow these steps.

Turn the small screw on the nob about 2 full turns
Carefully turn the nob all the way off.
Inside there is a round part with 3 small prongs on it.
spin that 180 degree and put everything back together.

2nd your clutch is gummed up
You will need to remove the handwheel and motor belt for this.
Remove the nob, small 3 prong part, and motor belt.
Pull the handwheel off (it may be stuck on and hard to get off).
Clean inside the handwheel and the machine main shaft.
Lubricate the Main shaft and put handwheel back on.
When you put the small 3 prong part back on it needs to have the prongs sticking away from the machine.

Hope this fixes your machine

Hi i want to buy a sewing machine wich one is best. kenmore or brothers sewing machine

Hi,

I would prefer Kenmore, enmore makes perhaps the largest selection of mechanical machines. The very cheapest Kenmore sewing machines, like the Kenmore Mini (*est. $100) and Kenmore 15208 (*est. $120), stick with a four-step buttonhole, and have just six and eight stitches, respectively. The Kenmore 15212 (*est. $150) and Kenmore 15218 (*est. $170) both have a one-step buttonhole. The cheaper Kenmore 15212 has 12 stitches. The slightly more expensive model has 18 stitches, including a smocking stitch, overcast and elastic stretch stitch in addition to the basics. Both Kenmore sewing machines are good, basic models, say reviews. Both have just a 90-day warranty, however. Bear in mind that Kenmore sewing machines are made by different Asian companies each year, resulting in varying degrees of quality; this also explains the low prices. Some users report difficulty with tension and light fabrics.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

My kenmore sewing machine won't wind the bobbin on. The motor runs but the bobbin is not engaged.

Not all models are the same.

You will have to refer to the manual to see what needs to be engaged or disengaged.

On some machines, this is loosening the center knob on the handwheel and moving the bobbin pin to the right or the winding knob to the left.

There are threading/bobbin winding guides sewusa.com where you may find your model or one that is similar.

Bobbin winder does not work on Model 17651

You have to make sure that the handwheel is engaged by pushing it in. When you are through, you have to pull it out.

Check the handwheel. If it is pulled out, the clutch is not engaged. Try pushing it in! (It would be really nice if the solution is this easy!)

It is a clutch issue.

If you can turn the handwheel manually and the motor belt is running OK but the needle will not move, you will need to check the clutch mechanism for the bobbin winder.

There are three ways for the clutch to engage, and as I do not know your machine, I offer all three for you to see which applies to yours.

Flick winder to the left to engage needle arm motion.......it may activate automatically when the winder is set to wind a new bobbin and de-activate the needle arm

or

there may be a small wheel inside the larger handwheel....tighten the inner wheel to engage needle arm...

or

the handwheel may have a push/pull action ....push in to activate the clutch, pull out for bobbin winding.
