Question about HP Pavilion dv6000z Notebook
I have an HP computer and found that same issue. The power supply and connections can be faulty... and its a real drag if not, just down right annoying. Sounds like a fairly new purchase see if you can exchange the unit. That might be your best bet :)

Plug the a/c adapter in and pull the battery out. Test them again. If they come back, go to hp.com and download the bios update.
Plug in your a/c adapter and remove the battery. Try the lock keys again. If the lights come back on go to HP.com and download the bios update.
