I also have an old hoover dryer, an Apollo 200. Funnily enough mine just stopped working in a similar way today. I like to consider myself pretty good with fixing most things, but after pulling the back of the dryer off, the drum out and having a look for something simple like a loose connection or a broken fuse, realised I couldn't find one? I am probably going to get a cheap multimeter today to test the wiring is ok, but beyond that I am wondering if the heating element may be dead.

I would by a new one but I would much prefer to fix it and have an extra $500 towards some nice new speakers!

I know exactly what you mean about your drier running but not heating up - i call the engineer out about every three months to so call rectify this problem, he tells me that i must use it a lot because the tube that collects the fluff from the tumbling gets blocked up! I think its just a really bad design as i only use my drier about twice a month! luckily i insured it with domestic and general else it would cost a fortune to call someone out all the time.

SOURCE: how do i change a

There's a screw holding each paddle in place, as well as the lugs on the paddle. You can get to the screw by removing the drain hose from the bottom on the drum, and the paddle will then be free to slide out
