Question about Logitech Webcam

1 Answer

Person on other end can't see me, plus poor audio

Been trying to get this set-up to work for the past week -- it's driving me nuts. I hope you can help. My mom is dying to see her first grandchild!  ;-)

I'm not a computer-wise person, so if I leave out details that you need, please be understanding. I have two issues -- a larger and a smaller one. First off, I have the logitech Communicate STX Plus camera on an older computer that's running Windows XP. My mom has the Logitech 9000 running on a Dell (not sure what version of windows).

First issue is on my end — I installed the camera and skype. I can see myself and everything, so I assume it is set up correctly. But when I go to test the audio on Skype with the test call, the very first call is crystal clear and no problems. Then after that --- the audio is horrible with lots of dropouts, and you can hardly hear the test voice.

The second and larger issue — we can't get it so that my mom can see me. I can SOMETIMES get it to work that I can see them, but not all the time. But the connection/time to do so is very slow. As a test/comparison, we tried Yahoo and on there I got it to work so that we could both see each other (but no audio for some reason) but the only way i could do it is if I launched and ran my STX by clicking on the icon under MY COMPUTER. If I launched the camera/ran it through the quick cam software, the screen goes black, I stop broadcasting, and they can't see me anymore. However, the picture quality of my mom is horrible. She said the image she sees of me is not bad. Based on this, it sounds like there's a problem maybe with the software? I don't know. All I do know is that this is so frustrating. I pray you can help me. I hope i gave you enough info. If not, I can supply more. Sorry for taking up so much space here.

I have installed a new Logitech Webcam Pro 5000, but although I can see myself the people on the other end cannot see me. Previously I had another logitech webcam and this worked fine. Does anyone know what the problem might be.

Everything works except the person I call cannot hear me. I am using skype. The echo check on skype works, I have tried two other cameras and I have the same problem. No matter how I change the settings...

The Camera and Audio setups are unrelated in both Windows and Skype. Please check your Windows Audio devices volume settings and specifically the Microphone settings: it appears to be disabled or the volume level set much too low. The windows settings overrides the settings in Skype (or in other words, Skype volume settings are a subset of the Windows volume settings). Check that Skype audio is setup properly after starting Skype: Tools -> Options -> Audio Settings -> select your required devices and volume levels. During this ajustment process, make free calls to Skype 'Echo / Sound Test Services".
Hope it helps! Let me know how you go!

I recieve audio and my program tells me my mike is working but the person on the other end cannot hear my conversation

sounds like a setting in the program/instant msngr you are using.. Try looking under options-audio options.. I know on many different programs you can just turn the mic off without the sound off all together.

Person on other end only sees a blk. screen

Normal 0 Web Camera’s have to be setup on the program they are to be used with. Just installing the camera on your computer does not set it up to broadcast on messengers or Skype.

Each program has Options that have to be setup in order for the Audio and Video to function properly.

A. Skype Setup:

After downloading and installing Skype set it up as follows:

  1. Go to TOOLS, then OPTIONS, and click on Audio Settings and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  2. Then click on the Video Settings.
  3. The camera if installed properly will come up and show a picture.
  4. Then on the bottom of the page click on Save.

The camera and audio should function properly. Your friends and Family will now see and talk to you.

B. Yahoo Setup:

After downloading and installing Yahoo Messenger set it up as follows:

  1. Go to Messenger at the top left and click on it.
  2. Next go down to Preferences and click on it.
  3. Next Calling and Devices on the right and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  4. Next go to the Test Audio section and (in blue writing) click on “Open the call setup assistant” and follow the instructions on the left window.

When done both the Audio and Video will function properly so you can chat and see family or friends you are connected to.
Hope this helps. Bud

When I am talking the person on the other end is not hearing my voice. THis is a new install onto my laptop

Hi Stephan,

Open Skype and login. Now go to Tools, and Options, now click Audio settings and try switching the microphone settings between Windows default settings and any sound card driver you might be using (I am using the RealtekHD Audio codecs, for instance) and you'll be able to see the level that both Windows audio device, and the sound card driver, is set at, and you'll see the levels bar reacting to any sound you make. If the levels are too low, then you have to go to either Windows Volume Control or the Sound Card Sound Manager and adjust the microphone settings there.

A lot of people have this problem at first run, so don't think you're alone!
Hope this helps

I actually used your question to solve this problem! My LifeCam was showing in the drop down boxes and I set the mic to the cam instead of default, closed and restarted AIM and it was working just fine after that. The problem is not with the LifeCam - it is with the AIM settings. Hope this helps
