Question about GE (PSS26MSRSS) Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

I have a GE side by side refrigerator that isn't keeping steady in temperature in either side consistantly, and hasn't almost since the day it was delivered. I understand that a faulty 'thermistor' could be to blame. Where exactly can I find this part inside my unit? It is GE model # GSL25JFTABS

The thermistor is located under a cover on the inside of the fresh food section . It is usually a small vented cover on the side, it could also be on the back wall. From the diagram it appears yours is under the cover where the light is. You should have between 15.5k- 16k ohms at 72 degrees. There is also a thermistor in the freezer section but is unlikely the problem. Here is a link that should help http://appliancehelponline.com/sxsfreshthermistor.html
you can also enter your model # for diagrams and illustrations

Ge pss26sgpass keep in defrost error code bc ?????

That is actually a "tc" error code.

This error means that the display board isn\'t communication correctly with the temperature control sensors which is why it\'s giving the error. It may stop cooling so you need to keep an eye out. Either way, try to unplug the unit for 5 minutes (don\'t plug it in early it\'s hard on the compressor). Plug it back in and see if the error goes away. If it doesn\'t, you need to order and replace your display control board because it\'s just not working correctly unfortunately. Here is the board to order.

I have a GE side-by-side refrigerator/freezer that's not maintaining cold temperatures. I was told to replace the defrost thermostat which I did and it seemed to work for about a week or so. But now it's...

If the refrigerator isn’t cooling at all the motherboard is a good possibility burnt marks or not. If the fans are not running it could be a defective fan, motherboard or both. Take a look at this page http://www.appliance-repair-it.com/refrigerator-fan-motor.html

If the refrigerator isn’t defrosting properly, after a few days the freezer coils will get blocked out with heavy frost. There are four things that will cause this, defrost thermostat, defrost heater, evaporator thermistor and the motherboard. This page should help http://appliance-repair-it.com/GE-refrigerator-repair.html

you do not say how full/empty you keep the freezer.
pad out empty spaces with any spare foam (stops air movement when you open door) could be faulty temp sensor...or auto defrost sensor .......rare.

Freezer temperature is not consistent

No recall that I have on my listing for that model. Keep in mind that the refrigerator goes into a defrost mode that lasts up to 30 minutes. It happens anywhere from 10 hours to 60 hours of operational time. When this happens, it's not uncommon to see 20 ° temperature. If you check it again an hour later, it should be back under 10 °. Also, double check to be sure the condenser coils are really clean. That alone can also cause this sort of symptom.

Refrigerator not keeping cool

Your coils could be clogged with debris. i had the same problem. You can go to home depot and get a specific brush that you can use to clean out the coils. They are either behind the fridge, or under the fridge. Do it on a regular basis, cause that can cause the compressor to burn out. I am not an expert, but that worked for me
