I have inserted a new Kodak SD memory card in my Kodak EasyShare Z760. My display says "Memory card requires formatting". When I hit "continue" I get an hour glass and the display says formatting. However, within about 2-3 seconds, the camera kicks out of formatting mode, and I am unable to format the card.

This error message means that the card is corrupted or formatted for another digital camera. Turn off the camera. Insert a new card or format the card.
Try to format the memmory card using a card reader and the PC this should solve your problem if not you have to replace the memmory card.
There is a function to format memory cards somewhere in the camera's setup menus, but this might not be the problem. Most cards come pre-formatted. If this card is more than 1GB it will be SDHC instead of SD. SD and SDHC cards fit the same slots, but many cameras won't work with the SDHC (high capacity) cards. SDHC is not backwards compatible.
There is no reason not to try formatting the card, but if it won't format or isn't usable after formatting, then it may be incompatible.
Your camera is only supporting SD/MMC Cards (up to 2 GB) and KODAK SDHC Cards (up to 8 GB).
The card that you currently have might be faulty. Please try another card. You might also need to switch the camera over to saving pictures directly onto the SD card.1: Menu, Cam settings, Chose AUTO or SD card option Press OK
Note: If the SD card isn't in the camera or is unreadable the camera will automatically go back to saving you taken pictures on the internal memory.
If you connected the camera to the computer with a USB cord to download your pics and then just yanked out the cord without using the "safely remove hardware" icon at the bottom right corner of your screen, the card may have been corrupted. Replace it.
If you used the SD/MMC memory card in another brand of camera or device, you may need to format the card in your new EasyShare digital camera. (You may have noticed a "Memory Card Needs Formatting" message when you inserted the card.)
CAUTION: Formatting deletes all pictures and videos, including those that are protected. Removing a card during formatting may damage the card.
