Well maybe the console needs to be cleaned out then dust causes videogame consoles to heat up 10 times faster than their normal heating rates.

Well there could be an internal issue with the console then or video games consoles are senseitive to heat and it could be an over heating issue. Dust acts as a baricade and it makes video game console over heat 10 times faster than their normal rate.

N64 game freezing

Well its the console thats making the burning smell becuase its a power supply failure warning or its over heating for this to happen. I had my N64 console for 14 years and never heard of this before. I has to be the console or the ac adapter then.

I've had my N64 for a long time. Now when I turn it on, the screen just flashes and doesn't do anything. Sometimes it works for a couple minutes then freezes. This happens with all my games.

make sure the game port is clean and the game itself is clean. use rubbing alcohol on a cotton swab and lightly rub it on and see if any dirt comes off

N64 freezes while playing

The Nintendo 64 is notorious for overheating problems.  This is a very common problem.  With my N64, I play it while a fan is blowing on it.  This usually prevents the problem.  Try this method.  It should work.
Hope this helps!!

Kirby 64 won't hold a save file

The battery inside the game pak has died, thus, it can no longer hold a save.
Buy a special screwdriver for n64 Game Paks. Unscrew the casing, then find the battery inside the Pak. Take it (the battery) to any store that sells watches, then ask for a replacement for that battery. Plug the batery (+ side facing you) in the Pak, then screw it back together.

Your game should now save. :)

Freezing

I have the same problem with my genesis. Most likely it freezes if you make the cartridge move any, which is hard to avoid on these older consoles. Same goes for any cartridge based console i.e. NES,SNES,N64 sega
Theres a cheap way to keep the cartridge from moving though, heres what i do; As your inserting the game, wedge something like a quarter, or a small piece of cardboard with the game. It keeps the game from moving, and thus keeping it from freezing.
hope this works for you!!

Something inside n64 game cartridge

There could be many things making that noise, my fellow N64 Gamer :)
It could be a few loose pieces of plastic that have broken off over the years, or it could be the chipset itself, which would be the reason why it's not working. By a special screwdriver off the internet (not more that 10 bucks) and open the cart to see what's making the noise.

As for the freezing up, if the chipset's moving around in there, it cold be freezing, if the chipset isn't moving, you could try cleaning the contacts on the bottom with a solution of alcohol and water.

My n64 keeps freezing

Based on what you said, you need to clean you prongs on both the console and games. Also, blowing into it can help too. If that fails, you might have a short in your system and need a new one.
