Question about HP LaserJet 3310mfp All-In-One Printer

4 Answers

I have a HP Laserjet 3310 and when the bulb has warmed up the carriage keeps jerking and clicking on one end. After a few seconds it stops and ''Scanner Error'' appears in the screen. It says to turn off and then back on. I have cleaned all mirrors in the carriage but the problem persists. Can this be fixed? thanks

I tried reinserting the toner cartridge some time ago. I even replaced it with a new one. I use this machine with a Mac and it has the problem even when it is not connected to any computer.

  • comet88 Jul 23, 2010

I have already cleaned the glass and mirrors several times. It does not appear to be software related since it has this clicking problem whether it is connected to the computer or not. Since I am using a mac and do not have the original software installation disk, I can only install software downloaded from the HP site. I have re-installed software twice without any change.

Nope! That doesn't work either. I cannot install the firmware because I cannot find the IP address. I don't have the manual and I am unable to print out a configuration page. It seems Mac addresses are harder to access. This might be a lost cause. Too bad it is a great printer/copier.

I am sorry. Here is the link for HP solutions.

HP LaserJet 3300mfp Series Products - Scanner Bulb Error Message
    ISSUE:
A Scanner Bulb Error message is received as a result of the HP LaserJet 3300mfp series product scanner’s inability to find the home reference point.
    SOLUTION:
Perform the following steps to walk the scan assembly from the home base and resolve the issue.

    1. Remove and replace the power cord from the unit.

    2. Wait approximately 35 seconds for the scanning assembly to “walk out? and then quickly remove the plug again.

    3. Repeat steps 1 and 2, three to four times until the head moves approximately 1 inch away from its normal resting place.

    4. Replace the plug and let the product fully finish the boot cycle.

If this does not resolve the issue or the issue returns, upgrading the product firmware may help. The firmware upgrade can be found at the HP Web site Downloads, Drivers, and Notifications page .

There is a support document that says to do the following:
Perform the following steps to walk the scan assembly from the home base and resolve the issue.

  1. Remove and replace the power cord from the unit.
  2. Wait approximately 35 seconds for the scanning assembly to “walk out" and then quickly remove the plug again.
  3. Repeat steps 1 and 2, three to four times until the head moves approximately 1 inch away from its normal resting place.
  4. Replace the plug and let the product fully finish the boot cycle.
It also mentions that if this does not fix, it upgrading the firmware may help. You can find the firmware upgrade by going to the HP website.

Hello,

I will suggest you clean the glass of your HP scanner. Dirt can build up under the glass of the scanner and cause it to stop working properly. To clean under the glass, you will need to pry up the glass using a flat head screwdriver. You may need a Phillips screwdriver as well if a screw is in place at the back of the scanner's glass. Use glass cleaner and a dry cloth to wipe away any dust and debris. Re-install the glass using the Phillips screwdriver.
Disconnect all of the cables and turn off the power source of the HP scanner. To fix a strange mechanical noise from the device, turn the scanner off and then reconnect the cables and power source after waiting one minute.

Uninstall the software for you HP scanner. If your issue seems to be software related, you should uninstall and install the HP scanner software. To do this, go to "Add/Remove Programs" on your desktop. Find the HP scanner program and click the "Uninstall" option. Once this is complete, reinsert the HP scanner software CD-ROM and follow the installation instructions.
Install any driver updates for your HP scanner. An outdated driver can also cause your HP scanner to malfunction. Resolve this problem by downloading a new driver from the HP Support website.

Take care.

Yes it can be fixed. You can try to turn off the printer and remove the toner from it by removing its cover. Then reinsert the toner from the cover. Maker sure that the paper is aligned to the tray so that it would be ok. For the scanner error, I believe there is a HP USB driver installed or another driver installed in the pc. Make sure it is an hp driver. You can check that on the device manager by clicking start > right click my computer > properties > hardware > device manager. Then under images, check if the driver is installed properly. If the scan error still exists, try to uninstall the driver by right clicking the driver and click uninstall. Restart the pc and printer and check if the scanner is ok.

HP Laserjet 3330 Multifunction monochrome printer, copier, scan and fax. This machine will warm up, and after it reads "scanner lamp warming", the scanner lite lights up, the carriage moves back and forth,...

Hello,

This type of problem is usually caused by dirty mirrors in the scanner. After a few years of use the mirrors and lenses in the unit will get a fine coating of dust particles on them. The dust interferes with the scanner initializing the optics. When this happens the unit displays the Scanner warming up message on the screen and keeps trying to move the scanner assembly to get a good reading from the pickup. To solve the problem you will need to disassemble the scanner portion and clean all of the mirrors with window cleaner and a soft cloth or q-tip. To get dis-assembly guides just do a google search for the 'scanner warming up' error.

I hope this helps, If so please rate our solution.

Carriage Belt is worn and slipping 3310 HP. Where do I purchase?

The 3310 parts are not distributed anymore.

This is one of biggest sellers, and does not have any part listed for 3310:HP Photosmart Printer Parts.

The only option is grabbing spares from Ebay, like this one below:

Carriage jam message

I had this same problem and spend hours working on it. Took the side panels apart to get a better look. Nothing anyone said fixed the issue. Not even the link everyone keeps posting to HP's carriage jam fix. Was out of solutions and about to give up and order a new printer. There was one last thing I had to try that I didn't think was going to work, but I had a theory. Right after I tested this solution it started working again. This worked for me, but anyone who has tried every and have not got their printer to work can try it.

My Solution: Open the front covers and look inside. Just above the metal rail that the carriage travels on there is a thin plastic strip about 1/4 in. width and should have a glossy shine to it. I believe this is some kind of positioner. It runs through the carriage and gives it some kind of position. After years of use, it'll become dirty with ink. I used some tissue and alcohol and wiped the strip clean. It worked perfectly fine right after. Below is a picture of the strip I underlined with a yellow line.

Scan head/carriage not parking in one spot -- keeps moving.

The scanner is having trouble getting its "white reference" usually due to dusty mirrors, but can also be the bulb losing brightness. These are not a easy machine to pull apart if your not used to it.

Good colour laser MFP, depends on volume of prints and remember colour dont come cheap, but dont use refill cartridges, Kyocera and Oki both have good Models
