Question about HP LaserJet 3050 All-In-One Printer

2 Answers

Win32NT 5.1.2600.0 I looked at your answer to Gargamel and this is NOT how my Win32NT problem is showing up. It appears in its own window with an OK button at the bottom. Clicking O.K. sens you to another window that says: (Window title)= HPTLBXFX.exe (Window contents)= Processid 0x4c0, Threadid 0x4c4 to proceed to debug click cancel to exit press o.k. (and there are cancel and o.k. button at the bottom This error seems related to the HP Laserjet 3050 printer specifically the HPTOOLBOX and having experienced the "HP TOOL BOX" error. Any further help would be greatly appreciated. We are running Windows XP not NT with a 330 Intel Celeron processor

Hello Hawkmistress

I just saw your request. I didn't get an email notification of it so my apologies for any delay.

Deselecting HPTLBFX.exe in MSCONFIG (or anything else for that matter in MSCONFIG) is only a temporary solution. Disabling items in MSCONFIG is a trouble-shooting tool. Once you've determined that a particular item in MSCONFIG is causing issues, then the next step is to address that particular item and, eventually, get MSCONFIG back to Normal Boot configuration.

I've resonded to more than 200 questions in the short time I've been here on Fixya. Unfortunately, I don't know which problem you're referring to. If you'd like to give me a link to that problem or, better yet, explain to me in detail the equipment involved and the problem you're experiencing, I'd be more than happy to work w/ you on it.

It sounds as though there is a possibility HP Toolbox is conflicting or being conflicted w/ or by another program or it is, in itself, corrupted, etc.

(01) My recommendation would be to disconnect from your computer the HP Printer that this particular HP Toolbox is associated with.

(02) Uninstall the HP Software that includes that HP Toolbox.

(03) Reboot your computer.

(04) Restore MSCONFIG to Normal Boot.

(05) Reboot your computer.

(06) Clean up w/ THIS utility.

(07) Reboot your computer.

(08) Clean up w/ CCleaner again.

(09) Then re-install your printer software.

** Be sure to create System Restore points all along the way.

** If you have other HP Software installed that also includes a monitoring program and/or toolbox, please, let me know BEFORE you take the steps I've outlined here.

If you'd like me to pursue this with you, please, post back here w/ the results and your observations. Hold off, please, on assigning a "best solution rating" until the issue has been resolved or diagnosed. I'll continue to work w/ you as long as the problem remains open.

Thank you,
BJ @:)

    Sure, Hawkmistress. That'll be fine.

99% of the time, the monitors that install w/ so many hardware devices (printers, cameras) are unnecessary. They take up system resources when they aren't necessary or in use.

It's best to remove them from the Startup folder or the the registry "run entry" they appear in and run them manually on an as needed basis.

Otherwise, we run into problems like the one you're experiencing where two or more device monitors are bumping heads and using up resources unnecessarily.

To clarify, you don't have to throw the baby out w/ the bath water. When you want to use functions availble via the HP Toolbox for instance, double-click its shortcut in your Start Menu or on your Desktop to turn it on. When you're done w/ it, right click it's icon (now in the System Tray in the lower right hand corner of your screen) and turn it off or "exit" the monitor. You can do this w/ most any software device monitor (cameras, printers, etc)

It seems to be a conflict with the picture viewer for our digital camera and the HPtoolbox application. I will post more details after trying your suggestion

My kids were on level 19 on the smurfs game. they tell me, suddenly gargamel's picture appeared, and there was a message from papa smurf that gargamel found the village and that the smurfs have all run...

I have the same problem. Only the upper-part of my village is left, and little roads are left. Everything else is gone. I am still in level 24. Gargamel appeared, and it was like all starting over again... I just have 5 smurfs left.

Hi Gargamel,

That's your windows operating system version popping up. If you click on START then RUN and type in (w/out the brackets) [winver], that is likely what you'll see.

Are you running Microsoft TweakUI for WindowsXP? There's an option in TweakUI to Enable (or disable) "Show Windows Version on the Desktop".

I don't know how it got enabled on your new XP build. It normally isn't enabled by default. But you can most likely disable it by installing TweakUI and, 1st, selecting the option, and 2nd, deselecting the option to "Show Windows Version on the Desktop".

See HERE.

You can download TweakUI from HERE. Look in the right hand column. Scroll down 'till you see TweakUI.

There's a registry edit for this, too. I'm cautious, though. I don't normally recommend registry editing unless the person is experienced in it. If you are, please, let me know and I'll pass that on to you as well.

Thank you

My system locks up when I attempt to download images from my PDC 640 camera.

While it appears that the system is locking up, the actual problem is that a message prompt in the PhotoMAX 2.0 software is hiding beneath other open windows and needs to be answered before proceeding. In this instance, the PDC 640 TWAIN Driver window has been preset to always be the "top" window, obscuring any other windows that may be open behind it. The PhotoMAX 2.0 window must be "active" (or "brought to the top") to answer any message prompts. Once the message prompt is answered, you will be able to download images. To deactivate the PDC 640 TWAIN Driver window's "Always on Top" preset: 1. Launch the PhotoMAX application. 2. Select Get Photo. 3. Select Camera or Scanner. The Acquire From window appears. 4. Select Twain device and click OK. The Select Source window appears. 5. Highlight PDC 640 and click Select. The album window appears next, followed by the PDC 640 TWAIN Driver window. 6. Right-click on the PDC 640 TWAIN Driver window and deselect (i.e. uncheck) "Always on Top". To move the PhotoMAX 2.0 window forward: 1. Launch the PhotoMAX application. 2. Click on Get Photo. 3. Click on From Album. 4. When the album opens, answer YES to the question "The contents of this album have been changed. Do you want to save the changes?". 5. Click on the Acquire icon at the top of the album window to select the PDC 640 camera and download the thumbnails from the camera. Your system will no longer appear to lock up.
