My westinghouse 905 dishwasher starts ok but stops somewhere in the cycle, not having washed the dishes properly.

  • funky1972 Jul 22, 2008

Yeah, mine does the same. Starts ok, sometimes it washes fine and other times it stops during the wash cycle.

If it is shorting out the house, get it fixed or replaced professionally. The wires that go from the base of the dishwasher and up into the door carry MAINS voltages. Where the door hinges (to open) the wires eventually get fatigued and break. They can sometimes short against the steel front door.
If it is stopping and not causing any other issues, it's probably a dry joint (bad soldering) on one of the connectors on the control board, or the power relay is bad.
If the dishwasher is old, I'd be betting the relay has bad contacts.

Why does my Dishwasher not drain completely at end of wash? Westinghouse model 905

I would 1st check your filter. Most dishwashers have them, and they get backed up. Usually on the bottom of the dishwasher. You can google location of yours specifically.

Dishes not coming out clean

Hello

There are some things you can try, however, if your Maytag dishwasher is not getting your dishes as clean as you would like. Maytag recommends several processes for fixing this issue with your dishwasher.

Do not run your Maytag dishwasher while hot water is being used in other parts of your home, such as washing clothes or showering. Hot water is needed for your Maytag dishwasher to properly clean dishes.

Run water in the sink in your kitchen until it gets very hot. Then, turn on your Maytag dishwasher. This will ensure that the water cleaning your dishes is the hottest possible temperature.

Clean your Maytag dishwasher to improve the cleaning results for dishes. Run your dishwasher on a short wash cycle and wait for it to fill up with water. Stop the cycle and add about 1/3 of a cup of rust remover to the dishwasher and finish the cycle. Run your Maytag dishwasher through one normal cycle with regular detergent to finish the cleaning process.

Check your detergent. Old detergent or those that have been exposed to moisture can be clumpy. This detergent will not clean your dishes as well when loaded into your Maytag dishwasher. Purchase fresh detergent.

Use extra detergent when washing dishes that have a lot of built-up grease or food particles. The extra amount of detergent is needed to get your dishes clean. Choose a long cleaning cycle to clean these dishes.

Fill your Maytag dishwasher properly. Dishes should not be stacked on top of each other or excessively crammed into your dishwasher. This will keep the dishwasher from adequately cleaning all areas of your dishes and from rinsing them thoroughly.

Dishwasher stops during various cycles and does not clean dishes

First perform a vinegar cycle wash in the dishwasher. Pour a cup of vinegar into the bottom of the dishwasher. Keep the temperature at the highest setting possible and perform a wash cycle. Then start using a dishwasher most probably that would solve the problem. If this does not solve the problem then there must be some parts worn out or faulty creating the problem.

There are many probable causes of failure .

To clean the dishes the water temperature is essential. It the water is not hot then the dishes will not be cleaned properly. So check the water temperature.

Also check the filter in your dishwasher.Clean the filter if there is accumulation of debris in the filter

If you are in an hard water zone , then try reducing the amount of detergent used and then try cleaning the dishes.

Won't drain

The drian could be plugged or the pump could have an obstruction. Did you just install a garbage disposer? If you did you may need to knock out the plug in the disposer. Hope this helps
