The problem you have mentioned is related to main audio/video board. It is confirmed coz since the menu functions are working all other possibilities such as power supply are ruled out. As much as I like to give you the part number I am afraid about missing the board revision version. In other words manufacturers keep upgrading the boards in newer sets. They have same part numbers except for a different revision no Henceforth I am willing to direct you to locate the part in your set so that you can checkout the part number and revision version and I can find you a replacement. So let me know when you are ready.

I have a Panasonic Viera tx l37g20b and i am attempting to connect it through a VGA cable. I have connected the laptop to the TV, but there is no option in the TV's menu to select the laptop as the input...

You should have a SOURCE select button on the remote control to select the input source. This should allow you to select the VGA input as the input source. You will also need to make sure your laptop is configured to output a signal via the external VGA port.

hi,
u can sellect input by following setup

1. Press INPUT. on remote
(A list of selectable sources appears).
2. Press INPUT again to select the input

( An image from the selected source automatically

On pic no sound blue srceen when turned on

NORMAL OPERATION. Blue screen is a volume cutoff feature when there is no signal. Turn blue screen off in the menu if you want sound when there is no signal. Another option cycle through the input sources until one is found if there are some attached and working.

Unable to play DTS-HD & True-HD

What do you hear? Do all other modes work ok?

If Audio Select (Page 44 and 98) is set to HDMI you will hear silence if no HDMI signal is present. I think AUTO is the best choice here.

-------

On Page 98 of the manual it says a bunch of things concerning automatic signal detection and input selection.

Initial configuration D) INIT. CONFIG
Use this feature to select the settings of the audio input jack select, active decoders and extended surround when you tum on this unit.
....

Audio select AUDIO SELECT
Use this feature to designate the default audio input jack select setting (see page 44) for the input sources connected to the DIGITAL INPUT jacks when you tum on the power of this unit.

HDMI set E)HDMI SET
Use this feature to select the component to play back HDMI audio signals.

Support audio S. Audio
Use this feature to select whether to play back HDMI audio signals on this unit or on another HDMI component connected to the HDMI OUT jack on the rear panel of this unit.
...

CHOICE = RX-V663

FUNCTION
Plays back HDMI audio signals on this unit. The HDMI audio signals input at the HDMI input jacks of this unit are not output to the HDMI component connected to the HDMI OUT jack on the rear panel of this unit.

CHOICE = OTHER
HDMI component connected to the HDMI OUT jack.

NOTES
This unit transmits audio and video signals input at the HDMI input jacks to the HDMI out jack only when this unit is turned on even if "S.AUDIO" is set to "OTHER".

I'd look in these areas for specific guidance.

Can not access menu or input functions

Hi rduncan27,
I will be happy to help. 88% of LCD tv problems are with the backlight, the symptoms you described indicate a probable inverter malfunction. Lets do a simple test to check the functionality.
  1. Get the tv to a point that it is producing sound.
  2. Take a flashlight and shine it on the screen.
  3. Look very closely for a dark video image.
Let me know your findings and we can proceed from there.

Panasonic dmr ex85 freeview prob

This is a problem with the video synchronizing circuits in your television set of cable box set-up. Something is causing a timing error in the signal synchronizing. this will cause a loss of control of the video content and the jumpy picture situation. This problem can be caused by bad cable connections causing line loss distortion, disturbing the synchronizing circuits lock on the signal content. You should try moving your cables around when your are having the problem and see if they are injecting noise on the input cable causing the loss of signal lock. It could also be a problem with overheating in the components of video circuits causing a disruption of normal function of the circuit. The way to test these problems is to check the connections of all the cable connections to the television signal input source. If this is not the problem it may be the cable box itself having trouble with overheating and losing it control of the synchronizing of the signal, between the television and the cable. You can try putting cooling fans or some source of cooling air on the units and see if this clears up the problem. If it does, then you need to use better ventilation in your set -up. Allowing the components more air circulation to cool off with, and avoiding the overheating problem causing the component error. If this doe's not solve your problem, have you cable box switched or tested on another television to see if you get the same problems. If you do then get a new cable box. If not you may have to have your television checked out for problems with the video input circuits.I hope this has helped you with your problem.
