Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

We just replaced the defrost timer on our Kitchenaid built-in 48 inch refrigerator Model #KSSC48MHS00, on Monday. Now it seems to be cooling properly, but is still barely making ice. We removed the top front grill on Wednesday, and then it made little ice, as if it's too warm with it in place. It still isn't working optimally. The freezer temp is now about 20 degrees, and the fridge still seems like it's not cold enough, set at Level 4. Could there be another thing that may be going out?

It may be a faulty timer, but it may be something else in addition to that. The fridge worked okay for the first day, but now only the freezer seems to be working fairly well, but the refrigerator has stopped cooling altogether. Any other suggestions?

Hello.. Put the freezer at it's coldest setting. Within 24 hours you should have a bin full of ice. If you do not, you may have gotten the wrong timer, or a faulty timer. J.

Most of the time, it's the defrost timer failing and ice building up behind the back panel of the freezer. Also could be the thermostat both are easily replaceable.

KitchenAid KBRS22KG black bottom freezer not working

you might have a defrost problem. Frost free models have a heating element that is controlled by a timer to automatically defrost ice, ie defrost timer turns on defrost heating element every 12 hours to melt ice in freezer and allow good air flow.
You can test defrost element with an ohm meter(located inside freezer coils-will have two wires going to a plug connection), if OK replace defrost timer (located in various places depending on make and model
