How to reset user ID and Password For Wireless Internet

Follow the steps as if you are doing the basic wireless connectivity setup:

1. Log in to the Router by going to http://www.routerlogin.net or http://www.routerlogin.com

and entering the default user name admin and default password password, or using whatever

LAN address and password you have set up.

2. Select Wireless Settings under Setup in the main menu to display the Wireless Settings

screen.

3. Select the region in which the wireless interface will operate.

4. Set up the 2.4 GHz wireless network:

a. Enter the SSID name. The default is NETGEAR.

b. Select the operating channel for the wireless mode. The default is Auto. When Auto is

selected, the router finds the best operating channel available.

If you notice interference from nearby devices, you can select a different channel.

Channels 1, 6, and 11 will not interfere with each other.

c. Leave the wireless mode set to the default setting of Up to 145Mbps for 2.4GHz.

5. Select security options for the 2.4GHz wireless network.

The wireless Security Options are set to None by default. NETGEAR strongly recommends

that you use wireless security. You can select a different Security Option and a different

passphrase for each wireless network. For the highest performance of the 2.4GHz wireless

network and the most secure encryption, NETGEAR recommends that you use WPA2-PSK as your security option.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response

Brought a new laptop with wireless installed have a philips SNB5600 but have lost the security key how can i get the code

go to the wireless access point admin settings (not on your wireless adapter on your laptop). then check wireless security settings. if you see something there such as security key, that is the security key that you need to set up on your laptop. if security key is not visible, try to see if there is an option there which says unmask to show the security key, then copy it to your laptop. if all else fails, change the security key in the wireless access point and change all the wireless adapters that connect to it accordingly to the new security key you set it up.

I need to secure my router. I had payed to have it set up when I was getting my computer fixed only to find out that my son could log on with out a password. How can I fix this.

To set up wireless router security, there are four main steps, which are the same for most routers. These are:

1) Login to your router, using a wired connection
2) Change the router login password
3) Change the network name (SSID)
4) Enable WPA encryption.
************DETAILS************
1) Login to your router, using a wired (Ethernet) connection.
Make sure you have a cabled connection to your router. Then open a web browser, and type the router’s IP address into the address bar. For example, this is http://192.168.0.1
If you log in successfully, you should then see the router configuration screen.
2) Change the router login password.
To change the router password, find a menu option such as Setup, Tools, Administration, Basic Settings, Management, or Utilities.
Set and confirm a new login password. Click ‘Save/Apply’ when finished.
3) Change the SSID (network name):
The SSID or Network Name is the name you see when you are looking for an ‘available wireless network’.
To access this setting, find a menu option such as Wireless, Wireless Security, Security, or perhaps Advanced Settings.
Change the SSID from the default, to anything you like. It is case sensitive, and you can use up to 32 letters – but do not use something that could identify you, or your location. Click ‘Save’ or ‘Apply’ when finished.
4) Enable WPA encryption
Find the Wireless Security or Wireless Encryption Options section - often in the same section as the SSID (eg for Netgear – it’s still in Wireless Settings).
You may have a number of encryption options. Select WPA-PSK or WPA2-PSK (good choices to start with).
You then need to enter a network key. The box to enter this may be labelled Network Key: it may also be labelled WPA-PSK, WPA Shared Key, PSK, Security key, Passphrase, Pre-shared key, Authentication key .
Note down your network key carefully. You will need this to connect wirelessly. Click ‘Apply/Save’ when finished.
That's it - you have done enough to secure your network, and can close the screen.

Setting up Wireless Security ? BEFW11S4

Securing your wireless network is a simple process, which generally does not require a lot of time. Please follow these instructions to secure your wireless network. Accessing the Router 1. Go to your desktop and double click on Internet Explorer (Located on the Start Menu in Windows XP) 2. When "Internet Explorer" opens type http://192.168.1.1into the "Address" bar and click on Go 3. The "Enter Network Password" window will appear. 4. Skip user name and type admin (admin is the default password) as the password, and click OK Setup Page Security Options When you arrive at the Setup page, you'll see the bulk of your wireless security features. There are three things you're going to want to set on this page: 1. SSID a) Delete linksys from the "SSID" field b) Input your own unique SSID. We general recommend something easy to remember, but secure enough to where people would not be able to guess it easily. Sometimes your best bet is to use your last name and add some numbers. a) Click Apply then Continue 1. SSID Broadcast (Firmware 1.42.7 and above only) a) Click No on the Allow "Broadcast" SSID to associate? b) Click Apply then Continue 2. WEP a) Click Mandatory for the "WEP" Option b) Click the WEP Key Settings button c) When the "Wep Key Settings" Window appears, change the option from 64 to 128* NOTE: 128 bit WEP may not work on non-Linksys products due to its lack of an IEEE standard d) Enter a passphrase** that is different from the SSID. Try to make it alphanumeric; instead of password, use password5532. Once the key has been Generated copy the key into a notepad document and copy that file onto a floppy. **NOTE: The passphrase will not work with non-Linksys products, so you will need to use the passphrase that you copied onto floppy. e) Click Apply then Continue f) Close the window g) Click Apply then Continue on the setup page. Setting up Station MAC Filter The Station MAC Filter option is a very good security feature that has been added to Firmware 1.42.7 and above. This option denies all wireless clients except those listed. To implement this feature please follow these instructions: 1. From the "Setup" page, click Advanced 2. When the "Filters" page opens, click on the Wireless tab 3. Make sure all wireless computers are setup to the router, and are currently able to access the internet. Once this is done, click on the Active MAC Table button. 4. Move the "Wireless Active MAC Table" window and click on Edit MAC Filter Settings on the main window. 5. When the "Wireless Group MAC Table" opens, go to the task bar and click on the Wireless Active MAC Table so that window appears. 6. With the two windows side by side enter the MAC Addresses from the "Wireless Active MAC Table" window into the Wireless Group MAC Table. - NOTE: When you enter the MAC Addresses do not include the dashes, and do not click "Filter" 7. Click Apply then Continue in the "Wireless Group MAC Table" window. 8. Close the "Wireless Group MAC Table" window and the "Wireless Active MAC Table" window 9. On the Main window Enable the Station MAC Filter setting.
