Click Start, click Control Panel, double-click System, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager. 18abb370-ac1e-4b6b-b663-e028a75bf05b.jpg If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. Double-click Sound, video and game controllers to expand that category. If a sound card is listed, you have one installed. If no sound card is listed, check the information that came with your computer to see if there's supposed to be a sound card installed. If there should be a sound card installed, you'll need to install one.If you think you have a sound card installed, but you don't see it under the Sound, video and game controllers category, expand the Other devices category and check any devices listed there.Laptops don't usually have sound cards. Instead, they have integrated sound processors, which appear in the same category in Device Manager.

If there's a yellow question mark next to the name of the sound card in Device Manager, there might be a problem.

  1. Right-click the name of the sound card, and then click Properties.

  2. Click the General tab, and then look in the Device status box to identify problems with the sound card.

  3. Although most speakers have a volume control, you can control the overall level of sound using Windows.

    1. Open Volume Control by clicking the Start button 4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33.png, clicking Control Panel, clicking Hardware and Sound, and then, under Audio Devices and Sound, clicking Adjust system volume.

    2. Under Main Volume, move the slider up or down to raise or lower the volume.

I HAVE A PC WITH INSERTED NVIDIA GRAPHIC CARD GEFORCE 4 MX 4000. DO I NEED DRIVERS TO INSTALL ???

Hello there,
For some operating system like Windows 7, some graphic drivers are automatically installed but the device will perform better if disc driver are installed. For some legacy operating system like Windows 98, you have to install your device driver or accustom with a 4bit color.
Devices that use Microsoft drivers has a limited function and you don't have additional options for that device. for example Realtek audio drivers has speaker config, equalizer and sound effects.
The purpose of a device driver is to simplify programming by acting as a translator between the hardware and the applications or operating systems that use that hardware.
Yes you have too.

Hopefully this information helps.
Thank you for using FixYa.

Hi.
Go to : www.realtek.com and browse for the driver which is suitable for your system. If you are not sure which realtek card your system has try a few different realtek drivers until you find one that works.

Go to devise mgr and look at the sound hardware under sound, rt click on realtek and click on properties, look at driver, does it say windows or realtek, and check version and date, then go to realtek
and see if the driver is the newest and the right one for your hardware.

That was great that you listed some info, but the wrong info,ex for OS, you should have listed the motherboard model #, you should post back the model# and what it said under driver, version, date of driver. Then someone can check to see if the correct driver is installed.
