Green light of death, capacitors have to be replaced but it probably wont fix it anyways. Once this happens the TV is completely useless.

Does this model have a reset button? Had a storm last night, TV went out. Other TV's work but this one flashes a good picture & sound for a moment and then is black again.

In lieu of a reset button, simply pull the power plug out of the wall for about 5 minutes, then plug it back up and turn it on. I've had to do that with my TiVos several times over the years. If that doesn't work, something may be fried in there.

Did you try leaving the TV disconnected overnight?

TV turns on then off no picture

this is very common. it is the power supply going bad. it should run at 130 volts dc. but it is now running much lower that this. just enought for the tv to come on. but not enough to power all the circuits right.

Tv does not turn on

If green light flashes more than 8 times, it could be as simple as repairing or replacing the power supply. Unplug the TV ,remove the back. Look for bulged or leaking capacitors on the power supply. Do it yourselfer? only if you have soldering skills, or purchase replacement board. remember, used boards are just as old as your failed board, buy new or rebuilt, Good Luck

Not working

Did you try to physically unplug the TV? Leave it unplugged for a few minutes then plug it back in.

My Sony 52" LCD kdlw3000 tv, which is almost 2 years old, went to standby mode after our power had been off for two days due to a storm. TV worked fine before we lost power and it's plugged into a surge...

Just as our modern sets can remember user settings when the AC goes off, they well may record error conditions for an extended length of time too just as our cars do. Flash memory (used in such applications and only type used in digital cameras for example) can keep information for a very long time. Even if not used in your set, there is surely backup provisions that can keep info handy for days and possibly weeks by using components that mimic batteries to retain even standard memory for weeks.
Most PCs have provisions for discharging this kind of circuit which then resets possible stored error conditions and returns stored values to factory conditions.
Feel lucky this time I'd say.
