1 Answer

Scenium HDLP61W151 Lamp went out. I replaced the lamp and the set worked for around an hour and then the screen got dark at the top and continued getting dark down the center of the screen. The sides and the bottom are still clear, but the center and the top third of the screen are almost black.

You have purchased a defective DLP high pressure mercury vapor lamp; return it to the seller

that was my thinking as well.....that the lamp was defective, so I returned it and got another. It is the "official" rca part made by philips and carrying the same nodel number. The second new lamp assembly did not even work for an hour. It started out with the black fog in the center and top of the screen. You can see images behind the fog, but it is so dark that you can't make out words or images at all. It really looks like something is hanging down blocking the projection of light but there is nothing that I can see. Still think it is a defective lamp?

Sounds like you have the dreaded DLP optical cube failure; you see: these sets rely on a technology called digital-light processing (DLP). With
it, hundreds of thousands of mirrors built onto a microchip flip and
rotate for each tiny picture element, or pixel, that's projected on the
screen.when the microchip that moves the mirrors fails due to over voltage or, failure to dissipate heat; not all the mirrors flip leaving "dark voids" on the screen. (think: color boards being flipped by tired fans at a football game) Check to see if there is a recall on the DLP module (light engine) for your set. otherwise; I think your power supply has failed causing the light engine and, the high pressure mercury lamp ;through the ballast; to fail by: receiving too much voltage I would suggest replacing the light engine but, with a power supply irregularity it might be, indeed could be; cost prohibitive. there have been so many Sony light engine failures that there is now a class action suit. you can read about this on the internet.

I just replaced bulb with new and after a day there is a dark spot on the screen

I have the same TV - I have a dark spot in the upper left hand corner. I have always thought this TV was dark. Be sure to get OME lamp. Cheaper ones are not worth it and can damage your TV more.
dlplampsource,com--Just a note if this ever happens to you. TV would not come on in the AM-Had no picture, but had sound. It was not the lamp, but the safety switch. It's blue and at the bottom of the lamp housing. As soon as I flipped it and replaced the back cover, the TV came on.

My RCA Scenium picture just went black out of no where. I can still hear sound, it will change input but nothing shows up on the screen.

Take the Lamp out and see if it is shattered. The access door is on the left rear of the set. Chances are the lamp is the problem. The Lamp cage has the part number on it.
I hope this helps,

Dark picture!

The Lamp it self, the Ballast, or the Power Supply that powers the Ballast. Even a combination of the Lamp and Power Supply is a common problem. If you have not replaced the Lamp since you have owned the set I would replace that first. The Lamp has about a 3000 to 5000 hour life span.
Hope this helps,

Dark band at top of whole screen

Pop sound is probably the Lamp or maybe the color wheel. When you unplug and try it on do you hear a whirling or winning sound ? Is it followed by a slight ticking sound ? If you get the whirling and a ticking sound it's probably a bad lamp. If you don't hear the whirling sound you may have a bad color wheel. The parts are both made of glass. The pop you heard was one of them breaking. If you can't tell, order a lamp you will need to change it eventually anyway.
