Question about Projection Televisions

1 Answer

I have a brand new Toshiba 42" LCD HDTV and I want to keep the picture size at 16:9. When I shut off the TV, it goes back to a smaller picture size and I have to make it larger by using the picture size button. How do I make the picture always stay at 16:9 setting.

You need to save settings after you go to picture manu.
It will be easier if you save screen format to autodetect.

Some simple things to be aware of: A lamp (generic cheap) or one reaching the end of its life can cause this issue, what is age and brand of lamp in the set?

I have a LCD Rear Projection Hitachi tv (62VS69A) and need to replace the light engine I believe. Will an engine from a 50" or 55" tv work?

No, the optics are set for the specific size of the screen. A 55 or a 50 would leave you with a smaller picture and thats even if electronically they are the same

Light yellow line through center of screen from top to bottom, also how often doe the "bulb" need to be replaced?

You do not have a lamp in that model. You ave 3 individual picture tubes like an older glass tv style except tubes are a whole lot smaller. The yellow line you see is most likely caused by a foreign substance hanging from the mirror or laying on the face of one of the picture tubes. If your mechanically inclined and would like to take the back off you will see what I mean and be able able to clean your mirror with windex and the face of the tubes. See if that's the issue and let me know.

Keeps turning off by itself after about 30 minutes

Is your air intake clean or clogged.. Maybe it's overheating causing it to shut off.. Had the same problem didn't replace the bulb but cleaned the intake and it works great again. Worth a try.. Intake is located on the left back pannel of the tv.. outside pannel pops off easly.
